A reminder on this Labor Day: Slavery still exists in the form of incarcerated labor.
It’s long overdue to end forced labor in prisons.

Angola prison in Louisiana is the plantation all over again!
We’re tied to our employers in order to have healthcare. It’s the same thing.
Forced labor, sexual slavery and work farms
Our prison system is so brutal even places like China have called it inhumane
📊🤔🇺🇸 This chart should make every American worker stop and think... bsky.app/profile/that...
Unfettered capitalism aims to keep wages as low as possible. And it wants costs as high as possible. That’s how it keeps US fettered.
BS, the prisoners should work off the price for their upkeep!
Yes
Make Gislaine Maxwell a part of the chain gang work crew. Let her pick up garbage, instead of underage girls for a start
Otherwise, the incarcerated laborers are working a form of slavery that is outdated. There are better ways to put their tine to use without forced labor.
That loophole in the 13th amendment needs to be eliminated.
Slavery exists in paid labor also, especially when the FEDERAL minimum wage is still $7.25/hr😳
Americans can't understand that they don't live in a real democratic nation. What they have is a corporate oligarchic plutocracy that created the illusion of democracy and freedom when in reality they are one of the most subjugated and exploited ppl in the world. But hey, Murikkka is great isn't it?
Incarcerated prison labor has an ignominious history, which at times was intertwined with slavery.
But, the practice, in itself should not be equated with what is by far the greater evil, actual slavery.
prison should be about rehabilitation. not private companies making money or cheap labour.
Especially at Trumpy business
Happy Labor Day!
Trump Orders Have Stripped Nearly Half a Million Federal Workers of Union Rights www.nytimes.com/2025/09/01/u...
Republicans are AGAINST UNIONS! Wake up.

I have lived through advances in laborer rights through the efforts of unions, belonged, was a steward and bargained. No kings!
There are more out right slaves than ever before in history.
Absolutely not. All white collar criminals should be sentenced to forced labor!
🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
And Definitely Ban Private Prisons.
Forced labor in prisons is involuntary servitude. Forced pregnancy, labor and childbirth also is involuntary servitude. Both date back to slavery, when enslaved women were forced to do both, and men and women’s bodies were used for others’ benefit.
Let 'em all out--and give 'em directions to your house.
Note: Forced labour in ‘for profit’ prisons
This question was even on the ballot in California last November and—shamefully–failed to pass. 😣
California has rejected a ballot measure that would have amended the state constitution to ban forced prison labor.
Advocate for reform, mental health services, programs to keep people out of the criminal justice system but those rightfully incarcerated do have a debt to society and laboring in ways that are not physically, emotionally, or mentally exploitive or excessive is appropriate.
Let's not forget that many, MANY women do child care, cooking, housekeeping etc etc etc for no money at all.
Let’s get rid of for profit prisons, and if you are in prison and taxpayers are paying for you to be there because you’re a danger to society, then fucking put them to work and pay back the taxpayers
Time to #FixThe13th
The $2.13 wage for tipped employees, even with the guaranteed equivalent of $7.25 federal minimum wage is exploitation by owners 🤬
Or
Unpaid internships and piece-work !
Do any earnings go to victims?
"A reminder on this Labor Day: Slavery still exists IN THE UNITED STATES in the form of prison labor." FIFY.
And the MANY MANY jobs in USA that do NOT pay a living wage, forcing ppl to work 2-3 jobs just to pay rent and buy low quality foods
It exists in the form of undocumented workers paid below minimum wage
Slavery is a constant in America.
Actual slavery is also still a thing.
America didn’t abolish slavery. It just sent slavery to jail.
…and on farms, housekeepers, gardeners, and backdoor manufacturing plants here too.
Absolutely yes. Fair wages are a human right.
Unionise incarcerated labour. Fucking do it real fucking simple DO IT YOU COWARDS.
If ACLU gives a shit about incarcerated people they would enable them to organise.
ACLU should follow this thread: bsky.app/profile/pile...
A few years ago I found out the glasses available for free on my vision insurance plan were manufactured in a prison and I could not stomach wearing them so I put down the extra money for some of the fancier frames. It's appalling to think about my accessibility tool being from a prison factory.
Yes, and for-profit prisons should be illegal.
Maybe someone already said this but slavery still exists in the form of wage labour...sorry...wage slavery. Spot on about super-exploitation in prisons...End it!
especially since it doesnt translate to work experience outside of prison
Why do you think Trump is so eager to jail "illegals"? Once the strawberry pickers & meat processors are all in jail, they can be loaned out to farmers & meat processing plants as free labor.
How far do we take it?
You are convicted to five years in prison. You have a work requirement. Akin to a high school children needing to do work, including physical labor (gym class).
Is this some horrible thing? Yes, chain gangs or the like are abusive. Prison labor can clash with free labor.
Prisons are slavery.
$7.25 an hour is also a form of slavery. They pay just enough to avoid the definition of slavery.
In Ukraine, they say "oligarchs see the workers as the manure that their wealth grows in"
Incarcerated labor and low wage workers !!! 🤬🤬
Private prison too.
It also exists throughout the world in a myriad of forms.
FACT!
This labor day, we will enjoy a paid day off, while roughly 800,000 imprisoned people could be forced to work against their will. Repost this picture to remind the public of the exploitation of the prison labor.
It’s long overdue to end people making money off of human suffering. Punishment doesn’t work. We need affordable housing, healthcare, education, and jobs that pay a livable wage. You’d be surprised how behavior changes when people aren’t desperate. No one is born bad.
Prison abolition
Forced labor in prisons is slavery and is the only slavery that is still legal under the Coonstitution.
