Spoke with an anon source who had an interesting insight into Visa policy. Per a convo with their bank on the Steam/itchio situation today, Visa put new restrictions into place due to a new "government policy." The exact phrase used by Visa. No specific country was listed as the source of the policy

Without knowing the source that is very vague, could be any number of excuses still then. Tired of this labyrinth of 'who dun it'.

Does anyone else get the feeling like visa and Mastercard are surprised by the amount of backlash they've gotten?
-
its KOSA/SCREEN. they're planning to get those passed.

The squeaky wheel gets the grease. If we say nothing ... they do what they want

It doesn't surprise me at all that my country (the UK) might be the one leading this charge. Considering the British Empire tried to enforce its puritan morality on the world through colonialism, I wouldn't put it past them to do it again through the internet.

Will be interested in reading reporting on this when you have it. Thanks for continuing to dig and fighting the good fight.

- More bible in US power.
- UK must follow suit to not alienate their biggest ally.
- Bible bashwrs lobby this bs under the label of 'morality'
- US laps it up because.
- Rinse repeat.

Time to fire up the letter writing and envelope labeling machine (3d printer with a pen taped to the nozzle assembly)

Analysis from me:
I would not be surprised if this was a reference to changes in U.S. federal policy. Project 2025 revealed a keen investment from Trump admin in the censorship of pornography through controlling institutions responsible for accessing it
Unclear without any further info

So theyโre preparing for a policy that may or may not happen.
It sounds to me like theyโre emboldened by the current administration.
People were just waiting for their chance and it finally arrived.
Problem is we were waiting too; I donโt think they thought about that though.

it's gotta be the UK or the states
-
Could also be the new UK law
-
This is extremely fishy. The restrictions on Steam/Itch match the ones that Visa/MC put on Patreon all the way back in 2017, the only differences this time around is the tighter restrictions on watersports, which could be explained by the UK laws from a few years ago

Just contacted them again, decided to start the call with โI donโt know why Iโm callingโ and acted really confused for a bit, managed to extend the call to 6 minutes of length. Every single fucking call ends with the script :tm:

I do not have resources to cross-check and verify this, but this does seem like somewhat of a lead

Makes me think back to Russell Vought, who's an acting director of the consumer financial protection bureau and one of the co-authors of Project 2025.

"Government" as if the whole world is the US ๐

A few things about this baffle me.
- They waited until Collective Shout made a move before they did anything, and allowed them to claim responsibility. If this was based on specific governments and laws, their lawyers would likely clarify rather then letting that be the initial reason.
-
I can't wait until they all get voted out.
The fact that these people were allowed to have this kind of power over people is an absolute failure of human decency.
-
Could be project 2025 bullshit, but my money's on either UK bullshit or state level age verification bullshit
-
Might also be the UK, right now. Visa and MasterCard have vowed to follow UK law for their policy and enforce it regardless of where in the word the card holder is.
-
they refer to "gov policy" but that doesn't neasecaryly mean the nebulous "policy" is something actively enforced on them, could be a hardware excuse
