Like the old TV commercial says, "Give a hoot, read a book!"
Is there a list of โforbidden booksโ?
๐ช๐
Happen to be reading a Bradbury today, โDandelion Wineโ.
Unfortunately
I feel deprived without a book
๐
Ray Bradbury was one of my favorites when I was a teenager.
"I love the uneducated." Do you remember when Trump originally proclaimed it during a rally in his first campaign, in front of a working class audience at one of his rallies? The systematic dismantling of public education has been going on for decades and this is the result.
I do! Anywhere from one to four books ๐ a week! Courtesy of my beloved ๐ Sacramento Public Library, who got me through the COVID shutdown and where books aren't banned but embraced! Historical fiction is my addiction! ๐
โWhat we don't know keeps the contracts alive and movin' They don't gotta burn the books they just remove 'emโ Bulls on Parade, Rage Against the Machine
Particularly the one that theyโre banning. If they donโt want you reading it, theyโre trying to hide something you need to know.
I love books. A world without books would be unbearable.
Happening nowadays ๐
But donโt read just anything. There are crap books just as there are crap tv shows.
Join a book club!
Glad that I used to assign Fahrenheit 451 back in the day, along with "Usher II" from The Martian Chronicles, which deals brilliantly with the effects of book banning through a character named Stendahl, who seeks revenge on the Moral Climate people by inviting them to his Usher mansion on Mars . . .
Martian Chronicles is one of my favorite books. I love Bradbury's books. Always read. It's a break from all the noise.
In the UK under the conservative Tory government, apart from countless cuts to public services, they also shut many libraries.
It's all so 1984-ish. bsky.app/profile/opsa...

I recent study said that reading for leisure is down 40% in the last 2 decades. I have poor vision and just became blind in one eye, so I've had to buy magnifiers, strong reading lights, and ultimately do most of my reading on e-readers. I'm angry at people with 2 good eyes who just don't bother.
Currently reading Against Civilization by John Zerzan. Kinda making me want to destroy our "culture" intentionally ๐คทโโ๏ธ
Iโm in.
I actually finished 2 ๐ last week. It was sheer luxury, sitting around, all day long reading and listening to music. Itโs on my schedule to do it again this weekend! Read ON!! ๐๐
As an English teacher, I approve this message. ๐
I used to read his novels. I used to have several autographed as he was a friend of my friend's father
My daughters read more than I do and I read a book a week. My mom passed that love of books to us.
I read every single day! ๐โฅ๏ธ
Streaming and cable channels have displaced reading for so many people. Now schools joining in. I was so disappointed that my 3rd grade grandchild had no book assignments over the summer.
Always.
What's the point of burning books that MAGA dont agree with? The fuckers couldn't finish a bastsrd comic

Current read: It Canโt Happen Here by Sinclair Lewis, whose writing carries more sparkle and wit than I expected.
It also feels like it was written last week.
Far as I can tell, every single "Alt" account is total bullshit 1st, you arrogate to yourself the right to be the alt NEH account, but in fact are anonymous cowards

Just finished A Tale of Two Cities. "The leprosy of unreality disfigured every human creature in attendance upon Monseigneur."

#ToDoList: Get the Red States to ban /Yertle the Turtle/ by Doctor Seuss because it's about their favorite politician, Hitler
I'm going to read /Huckleberry Finn/ again because it contains not only gay sex workers and two incidences of cross-dressing, but it also has Tom Sawyer personally outwitting a freaking lynch mob!
FACTS!
This is the best quote I have head in a while I am on my way to read a book right now
Diary of Anne Frank, Night (Elie Wiesel), Stamped from the Beginning (Ibrahim X Kendi)
I enjoy reading. I read around 200 books a year or more. I was raised to read, my parents and grandparents read to me as a child and now as an adult reading is a happy time and happy space for me.
But Fahrenheit 451 is the world they're trying to establish. ๐ก
I do every day. Have 6 library ๐ books right now. Belonged to a book club. So many books so little time! ๐คฃ

Yes indeed. U already know the leader of the free world doesnโt read.

Guessing the books people want banned have never been read by them!

Many people who have no progressive media availability are vulnerable to such persuasion๐
The national average reading level is 7th grade, but the mean is 5th grade. Americans can't read at a level where they can be capable and informed of making good decisions in a world this complicated. Weird reactions to big words.
I don't remember who said that... "Every banned book is worth reading!"
How many Ray Bradbury books have you ever read?
Also, was this quote from before the internet?
Picked up 3 books from my local library yesterday ๐โฆwhich one to read first???
If I had kids I would teach them to read using all the banned books. Everyone should get a hold of a banned books list and read every damn one of em.
Thatโs the one thing people always get Mandela-effect wrong about Fahrenheit 451. Itโs not some โcensorshipโ dystopia, people just stopped reading books.
So true.
"you don't gotta burn the books, just remove em"-RatM
Oddly enough, burning the books (or maybe just banning them) makes people want to read them. Gotta love psychology.
I imagine if a few MAGA read, theyโd change their minds!!!
Keep shouting for new elections
Overturn the 2024 presidential results

Stop being polite
You're gonna have to shout though because people are butt ugly
It's not on the menu but we can threaten this restaurant with a yelp review if they don't make it for us anyway
You know who doesnโt like to read ? President Donny Pedofile !! Prob. hasnโt read a book in his life !!
I'll never regret making books a part of my children's birthdays, holidays, and weekday gifts. If they asked for a book, they got it. If they asked to go to the library, we went. If they wanted to read all day, it was allowed. If they stayed up late to finish the book, no effs given.
Make reading in the bathroom great again. It's about the only place you can get privacy these days.

Why is anybody allowed to ban any book. Itโs illegal to ban books in decent countries who respect their citizens. Like those woke Scandinavian countries.

Looking for a good read? Try this. I grabbed a copy as soon as I learned it had been yanked from the USAF Academy library for "wokeness" or something equally stupid:
And get a library card! And visit your library - amazing selection of books, movies, and music to check out. I get a different cookbook every month.
US citizens better wake up! Trump is starting a war within the USA so he can cancel all future elections. That's how a dictatorship start's. Before you know it the "Handmades Tale" becomes reality.

A book has being banned is your cue to run to the nearest bookstore or library to find out what all the fuss is about.
I'm going to read and read!
I am re-reading Fahrenheit 451. It is an amazing book. Written in 1953.
The Handmaid's Tale, Testaments (the sequel), and a copy of 1984 that I still have to read again after reading it in high school many years ago.
Whenever society bans something the youth HAS to find out just why. Keep treating literature like a drug and soon youll have addicts. All these people have banned is paper.
Sound familiar?
Every day for the past 64 years and counting!
Every day.
Ok but why did you make up a Ray Bradbury quote about it
Or as the legends Rage Against the Machine said:
โThey donโt gotta burn tha books they just remove โemโ

Read Banned Books! And then ask why they were banned.
I'd love recommendations for some good, juicy banned books. Though my TBR pile is offensive.

Went to a reading of Fahrenheit 451 at the Santa Monica library many years ago - Ray Bradbury signed my copy of The Martian Chronicles and I was levitating all the way home. #ReadingIsMyJam
One book a day keeps the fascist away!
Also, don't gatekeep people who use audiobooks. There are many reasons people listen to audiobooks, some of which aren't an obvious disability. I was a voracious reader up until my late 30s, now it's a struggle. But I absolutely love listening to LibriVox and other free audiobook recordings.
