Spent 3 hours on Sunday looking for a locally rare sea duck (Black Scoter) that had been reported for almost an entire week.

No luck so I spent a half hour sitting on a dock taking dabbling ducks, mostly of this very friendly American Wigeon who paddled right up to me.

#birds

Gray-brown small duck with colors soft and subtle, with a light gray-brown head, made up of a bunch of tiny dark dots on a white background. Her body and flanks are a warm orange-brown, with darker feathers with orange-brown edges above. Her beak is a light blue-gray with black on the tip and edges. Her eyes are chocolate brown and friendly, with a hint of black around them like eye makeup. She is floating in a gray-brown lake.

  1. when I saw that in the ebird report this morning I did scream a little bit lol, I was so close nearby (Griggs Reservoir), although I was mostly after adding a scoter to my Franklin County list and that bird wouldn't have helped there (as it was in Delaware County)
