Buddha studied Jainism before founding his religion. Remember, he was an Indian prince. People speculate Jesus went to India to learn for the years he is unaccounted for in the Bible.
Buddha was influenced by his culture at that time including Jainism. There is a theory that Jesus studied Buddhism. Indigenous [and other] people the world over got IT without being told how; they just didn't get popular. Krishnamurti was to be the next teacher and told people not to follow him.

If you do a side by side with Jainism and Buddhism, you can see how Buddha created his religion. They say Jainism was founded in 6 BCE. They reorganized their holy books in 6 BCE, and split into 2 sects in 5 BCE, same time Buddhism was founded and Hinduism solidified from Vedic religions.
