  1. Importer pays $400 tariff on a $1,000 load of steel. Now, that load is a $1,400 piece of inventory. Mark-up is 100 points.
So, what would have been a $2000 commodity is now a $2,800 commodity. And the steel distributor is gonna add their 30% mark-up on top of that, to the end consumers.

  2. Yeah, good thing nobody needs any iron or steel to do anything

  3. Estimates are that for every steel worker job, there are ~80 jobs using steel Plus robots are doing more & more of the work in steel. 60% of US Steel is made using coal which Trump loves. Canadian steel made with 60% renewables

Does anybody in trumpland get that? Another wasted rhetorical question.

  4. We will just pickup and move factories. That’s easy enough right? Or, as I’m sure many MAGAt experts say “We will just reopen the closed factories”. Right the ones that are subdivisions now 😂.

  5. Steel plants opening in downtown LA, NYC, Chicago, etc?

Trump has absolutely no idea what he is doing besides causing a significant downturn in the economy.

Who could have known? No need to ask his former employees at Trump Casino and 7 other bankrupt businesses!!!

  6. Good luck carbuyers.

Auto companies did not shy from raising prices when there were supply shortages when Biden was president. How quickly do these generate price hikes? Why not yet?

  12. Hardly anything uses steel & aluminum anymore anyway! Aren’t cars & airplanes just made from sunshine & rainbows? Oh, wait, that’s now an 80% tariff on sunshine & rainbows.

  13. Retail prices are generally set as a percentage of cost (add 100%, for example). When importers charge consumers for the cost of tariffs, they may be tempted to (add 100%, for example).

  14. Why do you hate America? Don't you know tariffs are not put on based on careful analysis of our and our trading partners' optimised best mutual situation, but just cause money?

  15. Count the trucks on the highways, and how many steel coils are on them. I've seen it down to 1, and none. I haven't seen a truckload of chassis in awhile, either.

  17. I like graphs that start at zero. Really. Or more accurately, I dislike graphs that mislead by starting somewhere besides zero. This one is close enough that I like the graph—not the meaning—but like negative 4? But did you even ask me?

  19. The 25% tariffs on steel and aluminum imports prompted concerns that companies like Coca-Cola might shift packaging strategies from aluminum to plastic bottles to manage costs.

ALT: plastic bags and bottles are floating on the bottom of a coral reef
