Importer pays $400 tariff on a $1,000 load of steel. Now, that load is a $1,400 piece of inventory. Mark-up is 100 points.
So, what would have been a $2000 commodity is now a $2,800 commodity. And the steel distributor is gonna add their 30% mark-up on top of that, to the end consumers. -
OMG! Those poor billionaires!
-
That rapist is a real piece of shit. Aren't its tariffs illegal. Another day in fascism. #FDT

Estimates are that for every steel worker job, there are ~80 jobs using steel Plus robots are doing more & more of the work in steel. 60% of US Steel is made using coal which Trump loves. Canadian steel made with 60% renewables
Does anybody in trumpland get that? Another wasted rhetorical question.
-
It's just foreign steel. American steel makers will not take advantage of the extra margin at all, right?
-
Maybe this is why the WH extension is projected at $200m! Its the steel costs. Some say it could be built for $1-2m

the worst part is that there are people who honestly think "good, maybe now they'll reopen the old steel mill grandpa used to work at"

We will just pickup and move factories. That’s easy enough right? Or, as I’m sure many MAGAt experts say “We will just reopen the closed factories”. Right the ones that are subdivisions now 😂.

Excited to drive a car built entirely in America out of 100% redwood.

Steel plants opening in downtown LA, NYC, Chicago, etc?
Trump has absolutely no idea what he is doing besides causing a significant downturn in the economy.
Who could have known? No need to ask his former employees at Trump Casino and 7 other bankrupt businesses!!!
-
Good luck carbuyers.
Auto companies did not shy from raising prices when there were supply shortages when Biden was president. How quickly do these generate price hikes? Why not yet?
-
Muck up the market, finances, make the people vulnerable…coup-coup-coup…gear up…4T+ cut programs paid for by taxpayers…where’s the money? In his war-chest against America.

And here I thought domestic manufacturing was so important to this administration. 🤔
-
it's definitely a good thing that american industry doesn't use iron or steel in any products.
Otherwise, this would cause a catastrophic increase in prices for american made goods.
-
Well then. We should use more lumber, right? Now..where do we get our lum...oh yeah...never mind.
-
How many US industries does this adversely affect?

Hardly anything uses steel & aluminum anymore anyway! Aren’t cars & airplanes just made from sunshine & rainbows? Oh, wait, that’s now an 80% tariff on sunshine & rainbows.
-
“Trumping” - to self-immolate an entire country’s economy
-
Retail prices are generally set as a percentage of cost (add 100%, for example). When importers charge consumers for the cost of tariffs, they may be tempted to (add 100%, for example).

Why do you hate America? Don't you know tariffs are not put on based on careful analysis of our and our trading partners' optimised best mutual situation, but just cause money?
-
Count the trucks on the highways, and how many steel coils are on them. I've seen it down to 1, and none. I haven't seen a truckload of chassis in awhile, either.

When are the new factories being built in America?😜

Trump voter and Montana Knife Co. founder feels tariff pain: His $515,000 sharpener from Germany is set to cost another $77,250
Josh Smith says he'd happily buy the bevel-grinding machines from a U.S. supplier, but he can't. “There’s only two companies in the world that make them, and they’re both in Germany."

I like graphs that start at zero. Really. Or more accurately, I dislike graphs that mislead by starting somewhere besides zero. This one is close enough that I like the graph—not the meaning—but like negative 4? But did you even ask me?
-
I just don't think we can survive another 3.5 years of this.
-
Oh, totally. It doesn't mean anything. It's just a white line going up.

Steel builds Bridges, steel is what I make my boats out of, so the boys can build the bridges, new building construction you name it they're wrecking it all

The 25% tariffs on steel and aluminum imports prompted concerns that companies like Coca-Cola might shift packaging strategies from aluminum to plastic bottles to manage costs.
