  1. 1/2 A friend from when I worked in a Cathlab ‘85-‘87 has a good story: Fit and 25ish like her BF, those 2 head to Corsica to bike for a week. One day, aiming for a ~1500m climb, they zoom, still at the coast, past a group of old old guys, nod & wave... may be smirk a little as they overtake.

  2. professional cyclists are on another level entirely. I was on a local hill climb thinking I was doing ok, when I was passed by Michael van den Ham (Canadian National cycling champion) like I was going backwards. Humbling.

  3. I work with a lot of folks who train for marathons and triathalons. I've learned how to filter theirs trail suggestions.

"oh this is a lunch ride" == I need 3L and 6-hours "This is a good climb" == NOPE

  4. One rider's chill recovery ride is another's hammerfest. 'Twas ever thus.

Mind you, there's also the set-up lines, like "I'm gonna go easy, I did a hard ride yesterday" etc.
