Twice three squared squared (162) years ago today the First Minnesota Volunteers made history. The 262 men were hanging out in reserve for the Union at the top of a big swale at Gettysburg. They had just come out of combat and weren't expecting to see action.

But a union general, Sickles, who was commissioned not because of what he knew of combat but rather who he knew. Decided to take the Union 3rd corps and capture a bit of landscape. Leaving a hole in the Union lines a quarter mile wide. Hancock, ordered reinforcements but they'll take time to arrive.
