Posting this story on Dem Mayors' effort to form a united front against Trump's invasions, bc it's the kind of story people will miss and then claim Dems never attempted to form a united front.

People claim that about Congressional Democrats, not governors or mayors, and I think most recognize that those chief executives have more actual power to resist invasion and occupation.
Still, one can’t help seething at the fifth column in Congress:

These House Democrats seek a new middle ground on immigration
The New Democratic Coalition unveiled a plan to win back voters on immigration but they need the party’s support.

Can someone please gift 🎁?

"During the call, the mayors in attendance discussed what they saw as an urgent need for Democrats to define themselves as strong stewards of public safety"
Dems should reclaim the word "safety" from the Trump thugs. "Health and Safety" can also mean women's health/respect for science.

Are Congressional Dems getting in on this with any assistive pressure? Governors other than Newsom and Pritzker? How united a front are we talking?
-
Absolutely. Though I will point out that the action and unity seems to be happening amongst state dems (governors, mayors) in stark contrast to the deafening silence from congressional leadership

The most active & effective united Dem front, pretty much from day 1 of this Trump term, has been the Dem state attorney general collective:

These are losing ideas based on faulty polls

Only now on the verge of a civil war. Great job 👍🏻

Thanks. Marcy. The President of the African American Mayors Association, Mayor Van Johnson of Savannah, GA was just on @weeknightmsnbc.bsky.social talking about related issues.

They should, but more than that might be needed…

Literally every threatened group should be doing this. I'm talking to you Harvard, Columbia, the law firms who caved, and many others.

It’s a team effort. If national dem leaders remain silent and keep calling it a distraction the voters will notice. Still waiting for a sign of real leadership to come from the house and senate
-
Why are the mayors & governors leading this offensive? Why are the leaders of the Dem party MIA. These are tactical victories not strategic victories. The slow momentum of right-wing extremism to neuter democracy and reshape America continues on and will continue until a national leader appears.

The NYTimes’s bias against Dem’s actions is showing in the heading of the “related stories” section: “More on the Democratic Party’s Troubles”

Thanks!!!

Hmmmm, a Mayor in the Blue Wall featured.
Take it as a hint to move to and vote in the most powerful electoral region on the planet.

But they're accepting the "crime" framing, and trying to argue that they're also tough on crime? They call this "going on the offensive"? They are not talking about this in terms of a fascist military occupation that is a serious blow to our nearly-fatally-wounded […]
