Here is what I fear: The UK, and not Germany or France, will be the next epicentre of radical right government in a major European country. Why? A unique combination of electoral system, lack of constitutional checks & balances, total capitulation of the center-right & failure of the centre-left.

  1. Don't forget the other two key components - a Reform-compliant media led by Farage's BBC; and a badly educated population that, in large part, has still not worked out Farage's complete inability for the post of PM, despite plentiful evidence.

  2. France could see RN in power first, but they will be more constrained. Damage will be far easier to inflict in the UK where governments face few checks and balances.

  3. Is there any serious discussion of electoral reform in the UK? Typically, governments in FPTP countries quickly abandon proportional representation after winning power (see Trudeau).

  4. Labour and the BBC have been particularly weak, appeasing the tabloids and giving Reform a good run. The hard right needs to be exposed.

  5. Not if many of us get our way . There is a back lash to Farage, but it is not being reported . Because of our right wing press . I’ll fight this’s fascist party and so will many .He admires Trump and Putin not two of our favourite people .

    Quiz:

How many right-wing parties does the UK now have?

As the Labour government of Starmer is now vying for first place, ahead of Reform and the Tories, the answer would appear to be most if not all.
