The witch in the book WIZARD OF OZ has one eye.
She is not green, and is so wicked her blood has dried up. If you cut her, she will not bleed.
She is afraid of not only water, but the dark.
She does not fly on a broom, she carries an umbrella.
Am I in the wrong for being unsettled by the mental image?

No. The books are horror stories. Return to Oz is the most accurate because it keeps those elements. Tin woodsman wasn't a robot he was a dude whose body was replaced bit by bit
