They didn't think. Period. I'd like to believe this level of media illiteracy is a new phenomenon, but it isn't. Fishing & Farming. The Pound. The Union Jack. Totemic symbols of a Britain that never existed outside of Pathe news reels and Harry Enfield's "Mr. Cholmondley-Warner" sketches.
