Okay but if you're describing the curtains without that meaning anything, either in terms of plot, themes, or emotions, then that sounds to me you're padding your word count for whatever reason.

Is the curtains being blue a clue that will help the detective solve the murder? Are the blue curtains supposed to add to the atmosphere or grief? Are the curtains an allusion to another work that we're supposed to pick up on? Are you describing the scene in a poetic way?
