Tonight, NHK is airing a special program featuring testimonies from people who survived within 500 meters of the Hiroshima atomic bomb’s ground zero. The stories are so harrowing, I’m at a loss for words.
I visited Hiroshima in 2017. The most poignant moment came when seeing the preserved child’s tricycle in the Peace Memorial Museum and reading the story behind it. Tears were shed.

The Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum is one of the places everyone should visit in Japan. The story of the tricycle is deeply heartbreaking, and it has even been made into a picture book.
