  1. He/they couldn’t have done this without SCrOTUS. Once the gang of 6 opened the door to allowing the Pres to perform illegal acts without personal legal repercussions, the plans for dismantling the government and the rule of law could be charted and then implemented.

  2. The laws have been kept vague on purpose. The system was rigged to provide opportunities for those who designed it to skirt regulation and do as they please. They didn’t keep the norms, they slithered through the cracks.

    When the idiots without morals and a sense of honor started voting in mass and the rest of us got lazy, things went all to Hell. We need to revitalize civics in our country. We need to honor what we think is best about ourselves and build on that.

  4. The quoted tweet speaks of the scary side of this reality. But it’s also pretty awe-inspiring and a testament to what we can accomplish as a society. Human nature has both good and bad sides. For 250 years, for all our flaws, we managed to stay on the honor system. We are capable of doing so.

  5. And that the power to enforce the norms isn't automatic, but comes with effort from the people. It's on all of us. There are so many more of us. His power to tear down the system comes from a void of so much apathy that has allowed it.

    We the People must demand it and the reconciliation to follow.

  6. Our Founding Fathers got many things right but their (hopefully not fatal) flaw was assuming that the majority of public servants and voters would have some modicum of a moral compass - that their love of country would exceed their love of self. Then came MAGA…

  8. Because the original system limited the vote to wealthy white landowning men, did the founders build a system that relied too much on norms? They were the elite of society, and truly dishonorable actions would lead to ostracization.
