Litter is definitely a massive emergency that warrants mobilizing units from several states’ National Guard, arming them heavily and sending them into the streets of the capital.

  1. Has Trump seen Memphis? Never seen so much litter in my life. Much worse than anything I'd seen previously.

  2. Well, heck! If they're willing to do that on the Federal dime ...

I'm VP of our local garden club in a small town in Maine. We voluntarily maintain all our municipal flower beds & pick up litter at all our parks. But our average member age is 80+, so we could really use some able-bodied help!

  3. Couldn't they have paid the homeless even less money than they're paying the National Guard to do the exact same work, thus helping them get off the streets?

  4. Beautification projects are great! Maybe hire a bunch of High School and College students for it. Much cheaper and you could use people who actually live in D.C. and need jobs

  5. i regret getting out of the guard 15 years ago, i could have had the privilege of… garbage detail…

  6. We can’t make sure children have food and people have basic medical care but we can waste shit tons of our tax dollars on this?

It fills me with f*cking fury!!!

  7. And it’s only costing the taxpayer $1.1M a day. Hopefully that’s some serious beautification, apparently enough the OrangeNazi needed to declare an emergency.

  8. Where’s DOGE when you need them? Talk about waste and abuse! These poor guys just want to be home working their jobs and spending time with their families.

  9. One good thing to come out of this is that the National Guard from red states have found out that cities aren't really the scary, crime-ridden hellholes Trump and Fox told them they were. It's only a matter of time until they realize that EVERYTHING Trump and Fox told them was a lie.

  10. It must be hell to have to wear all those clothes in DC in the summer, while wearing a bulletproof vest and picking up trash

  11. Republicans can only frivolously pull these Guard guys away from their families and jobs because there's no accountability. Republicans figured out the Constitution was as full of holes as Swiss cheese and built an industry to exploit it while bystander Dems sat by passively for decades.

  12. Does DOGE know about the world's most expensive litter pickers? The jan 6 rioters could have been doing that if the #1 traitor hadn't pardoned all 1,600 of them.

  13. Wonder how the NG feels being pulled away from home just to replace the people who pick up trash.

  14. “I joined the guard to help protect my country.” You know the oldest name for those in the guard is “weekend warriors”. Non of this shit is what they signed up for and we are getting close to a redo of the Watts Riots.

Uh...you missed one. Yeah right over there. Good job boys.

  17. I recall many storm disasters within this nation that need help far more gravely then simple trash duty.

  18. So… what I did in middle school with Junior Civitan? Kewl. 🤙🏻 Not enough crime? They also ain’t going to areas where’d there’s crime. 🙄

  19. In my book Everyone’s Trash, I talk about how each day in the U.S. we generate 1.6 billion pounds of refuse. The 2,200 National Guard troops in DC average 40 pounds collected trash/guardsman (generous estimate), which equates to 0.000055% of daily national generation.

  21. Great evidence to support our cases all over the country that there are no emergencies - thanks, guys

  22. We are literally paying them to pick up trash. Isn’t that something for prison inmates to do, or some community service folks? 😡

  23. Picking up litter and working on, “beautification and restoration” projects. Sounds like landscaping. Peak irony will come when ICE starts arresting them while they work.

  24. As we are in the midst of hurricane season, maybe South Carolina and any other state that has seen continual and devastating flooding due to storms should have their National Guard troops home so they can help flood victims. Instead of having them in D.C. picking up trash, which isn't their job.

  25. could this be PUNISHMENT DUTY for guards that someone thought didn't show enough enthusiasm for their posting to DC?

  26. Let morale tank within the ranks, it’ll fuel them turning on the traitor faster.

  27. I remember there was some outcry during Covid when Massachusetts deployed Guardsmen to drive kids to school, in a dozen or so districts, due to a bus driver shortage.

There must be video of weekend Fox Anchor, Pete Hegseth, condemning that as an inappropriate use of military.

  28. If they’re picking up trash and not putting themselves in the bags along with the rest of the trash they are failing in their mission and should just be sent home.

    0
  29. Well, there are worse things they could be doing, but I think it will be hard to get some of them to reenlist with the promise of “the most powerful trash bags” for your deployments.

  30. My only real award from the Base Commander was a joint Accommodation Letter my squad got for doing his lawn.

So raking rocks, pulling weeds, all the jokes… literally part of the job.

  31. You know those National Guard are just so thrilled to be deployed away from their families, their jobs, their friends, so they can pick up litter in DC for the orange man

  32. Don't forget the grass! Next they'll have them spreading grass seed so it will look like a golf course.

idk, making them pick up trash lets them be useful for the first time in their lives.

  34. Gives them a human touch to mask their deadly primary raison d'être. Tells you that there was no compelling reason for them to be there in the first place and someone has got to eat it. You know who.

  35. “Bravo 6, this is Bravo 9 actual, I’ve got a discarded Wendy’s bag in the open, over.”

“Roger, 9, initiate movement to contact. You are cleared hot to engage. Keep your head on a swivel and stay frosty, over.”

“Negative 6, I do not see a Frosty, I say again, Negative on a Frosty, over.”

  36. I'm confused how they'd have time for that, what with crime and lawlessness rampant in the streets and all 🙄

    0
  37. I don't know who told them to pick up litter but I wonder if they're opposed to the occupation, as having soldiers doing garbage duty doesn't really make their presence seem needed.

    5
  38. I'm 90% certain they hired a guy to root out waste and unnecessary expenditure like this.

Odd dude ... I think he was South African.

  39. If you encounter Federal troops in your city, please ask them to call the military's GI Rights helpline for resisting illegal orders.

The troops are trained to ignore protesters, so maybe holding up a big sign would be better.

  40. Posted this elsewhere, but maybe they could go sweep the forest floors? Better use of their time if they have to do stupid shit, might as well help with the fires in CA.

  41. I greatly fear when it comes to the Supreme Court finally having a chance to rule on, "Can he just keep making up emergencies?" they will find some way to let him keep doing it, while overturning any other that said no. My respect for the republicans on the court is definitely at the lowest ever.

  42. Picking up trash by the National car in Washington DC is costing the American taxpayer over a million a day.

  43. Protecting the people of the United States from tyranny and trash so Stephen Miller is pleased and the Pedophile can brag about ending the war in DC. That’s war number 11.

  45. They need to get Trump’s fat ass out there to help them. They are taking away immigrant jobs. Bet they miss hard working immigrants now.

  46. Imagining an alternative universe where President Harris activated the California National Guard and sent them to Idaho to clean up Boise's parks.

I'm sure the good citizens of Idaho would act calmly and rationally in that instance.

  47. "Area beautification," the First Sergeant's task of last resort when the only alternative is leaving the troops to their own devices. Words cannot express how much these poor bastards are hating life right now. They got yanked out of their civilian lives for a literal Shit Detail.

  48. Why is it always pictures on the mall? If there was funding for NPS, there’d be park employees to clean and maintain and help monitor all of these places in DC because it’s not MPD that does.

  49. Littering is a crime ya know...better start detaining offenders without due process!

    0
  50. I’m glad they’re armed now, discarded trash can be dangerous 🙄

    0
  51. Yes! But it’s woke, namby pamby, liberal litter and very dangerous! It requires technical removal and management to successfully take it off the streets! The litter takeover was only days away from succeeding. They got there just in time. No casualties to date! And the battle has been joined!

  52. Instead of a bayonet they should put a grabber on the end of the rifle so they don’t hurt their backs bending over.

  53. The real trash in DC is sitting in the Oval Office. Why doesnt the National Guard take that out???

    0
  54. So does this mean the National guard is going to Chicago to do a spring clean? Should we get the guard some new cleaning aprons?

    0
  55. That’s an expensive Garbage collection system….. plus it’s disgusting our troops are being abused this way!

  56. Ripped from their homes, families and jobs in other states to pick up garbage for unknown periods of time...

    0
  57. Hey National Guard. You want beautification? Remove a big pile of orange crap in White House.

    0
  58. My friend, former Army, always used to talk about how picking up cigarette butts was either a punishment, or a duty given to someone too incompetent to do anything important. This seems like a morale breaker.

    0
  59. Complete disrespect to take those citizen soldiers away from their families and jobs for such trivial, concocted nonsense.

Not one of them signed up for this.

    0
  60. IF THIS is all they're being used for, someone needs to tell Blackburn, Lee and FAGERTY, that there's LOTS OF TRASH to be cleaned up, RIGHT HERE in Tennessee....starting with the government officials!!...THEN they can work on 'cleaning the streets'!!

    2
  61. Great warfighting training program. Attach the bayonet to your rifle, use that to pick up garbage (we care about back injuries, but not stabbing yourself or others). For your protection ensure your rifle is loaded with live ammo in case you run across any illegal Taco Bell wrappers.

  62. As an aside, this is something we should have had the Climate corps do - get paid, get job experience off the bat, make environment cleaner

    It's a shame
