TOPIC: [drum roll, please] As of tonight, #kidlitchat is 16 years old. Sixteen! We can't believe it, either! How long have you been a part of the #kidlit community--and how much has changed since you took your first steps on this path?

  1. Honestly I’m not sure! I felt late to the party when I got on the bird around…2015. All the people I followed were kidlit folks. I’d been writing kidlit (unpublished) for about 8 years already. It was glorious to find the community.

  3. It's only really been about 4 years for me! It was during covid that I decided to really dive into kidlit, and I haven't looked back! This community is so welcoming, fun and supportive! #kidlitchat

  4. Wow! I had no idea! I have only been around for about two or three years. The biggest change, I think, was the Twitter exodus. That was such an unpleasant upheaval. Completely unavoidable. No one’s fault. There was just so much uncertainty about how we all were going to stick together. #kidlitchat

  5. I’ve been part of the kidlit community for 8-9 yrs. When I first joined I was strictly interested in illustrating. Started exploring writing dummies 6 yrs ago. I don’t really know what has changed. During Covid illustrators were no longer supposed to send postcards but now they are back. #kidlitchat

  6. I recently joined in on #kidlitchat earlier this year, but have been a part of the #kidlit community for 4-5 years through #inkedvoices and #scbwi ! The #kidlit community is fantastic and I am thankful to be a part of it!

  7. Happy anniversary #KidLitChat! I'd say i joined the #kidlit community with Storystorm 2022 and then this chat this past year or so on Bluesky. The past few years I've been working on kids books, but I've been writing for decades and part of other writing communities here and there.

  8. Dare I admit when I 1st started my journey it wasn't unusual to send hardcopy submissions with an SASE and it wasn't necessary to have an agent as a kidlit illustrator. #kidlitchat

  9. Happy anniversary, #KidLitChat!

I've been part of the #KidLit community for a while now. I am such an Internet dinosaur 🦕 that my personal home page was featured in the 1st ed of HTML & CGI UNLEASHED back in 1995. Note the mention of my Children's Writer Resources.

    Yes, things have changed. 😁

Scanned book page from HTML & CGI Unleashed (1995), showing an example of a personal home page titled "Debbie's Home Page" by Debbie Ridpath Ohi. The page includes a screenshot of her 1995 website with links to writing resources, music, and personal content. The section discusses how individuals use home pages for personal and professional expression on the web. A yellow highlight and annotation circle the screenshot with the label "FIGURE 2.10.
