TOPIC: Do you ever change up your routine - your workplace, schedule, genre, age range you normally focus on, etc.? Does it help? Heck - do you have a routine or wish you could set one (if it weren't for those pesky kids! Or work, etc.)? Tell us how you work and keep it fresh! #kidlitchat

  1. I definitely have a routine, but I alter it regularly enough to keep things fresh, like changing what time I write or take a walk or have dinner.

  2. Ahh!—I missed this #kidlitchat. Yes to all the things.

The creative arts can be lonely. So working in community changes things up. My different sprint groups add novelty when things get hard.

Before I knew about #ADHD, I get bored quickly or ran out of stream w/routines. Flexible routines help me.

  3. I find I will start a routine and keep it going for a few weeks and then something inevitably disrupts it and I'm back to square one. But I'm always ready to try again! One new routine I have is listening to audiobooks while I work. Makes me more protective than having a movie on 😅 #kidlitchat

  4. I’ve never been a routine sort of person. Sometimes that’s a blessing - when I clear the rest of life away so I can write. Sometimes it’s a curse - when life crowds out writing time. Usually I find bits of time to get some sort of writing work done most days. (It helps that I’m a writer for work.)

  5. Summertime has made keeping a routine close to impossible, but I'm excited for school to begin and restart routines. For now, I'm burning the candle at both ends-- staying up late to write, then getting up in the morning to corral again. It's been exhausting, so I'm more than ready. #kidlitchat

  6. Honestly, kid lit is my neurodivergent hyperfocus/special interest so it fills up all the space that is available to it. I occasionally get burned out, but not very often. That is about as routine as it gets for me. Is that pathetic? It doesn’t feel pathetic. #kidlitchat

  7. #kidlitchat definitely! I do different aspects of craft in different locations around my house - the office is for typing only - I can't actually think in here, lol! usually I work early, then go for a swim when I hit a wall, but if creativity is flowing, I bail on the swim and go for a walk later

  8. I wish I had a routine, but I do not. I do change up what I'm working on periodically based on whatever can keep me writing. Right now I'm working on an adult mystery short story because that's where I found the energy after not writing for a bit. #KidLitChat
