I’m curious what you think about why it’s been so hard for Shelley’s original “smart monster” depiction to gain traction in the public imagination. Obviously, the 1931 film set the opposite tone, but why has it stuck so stubbornly?

  1. As a mad scientist myself I say the smart monster was too human and not as useful a tool.

    It makes total sense why most would prefer to use the dumber version. The dumber version works well as puppet, smart one only works as a vengeful creature.

    No wonder the doctor wanted to kill his creation.
