The J6 pardons and the Babbitt payout are very dire. A clear and obvious promise to the base that there will be no consequences for overthrowing the government and financial rewards for dying in the effort.

If Trump had been immediately held accountable for J6, Babbitt's family may have sued Trump. This payoff is unfair to the police who lost their lives or suffered injuries during the Capitol attack. Those families should be paid for their loss.

The sad part is the right wing of my youth would have at least had the sense to recoil based on principle at the idea of a personality cult for a billionaire from New York that was born into money, dodged service in the military and has never done anything close to physical labor.

Correct. I said this too when he pardoned them - it's a big signal to his base to assemble and arm themselves since he will protect them. And now, giving random citizens the opportunity to join ICE...he's assembling a completely loyal militia of white extremists.
