PODCASTS SHOULD NOT BE VIDEOS. WE NEED A SPACE WHERE PEOPLE DON’T NEED TO BE HOT.

Hard agree. And laughing.

Video podcasts don't need faces. They could be godawful powerpoints about godawful powerpoints

Not to earnest post here, but FWIU, the reason podcasts do videos now is because video clips can go viral and therefore increase viewership.
There's no market for video-free soundbytes.

Like, Deborah Anne Woll shouldn't be allowed to be this good.
-
Not every podcast should be a video… but can some videos be podcasts?

I was a podcaster for 7 years and never once did we share video. I don't know when this became the norm but I yearn to record in my PJs!

Reminds me of "you have a face for radio".

Agreed. I put them on so I don't have to watch a thing. (I also just don't have much interest in most kinds of video content in general.)
-
Now that you mention it, many of the creators I watch are conventionally attractive, or they just stay off screen. That’s a problem 😬 (there are exceptions, but not as many as there should be)
That said, I prefer creating for YouTube because I like to be able to add visuals - screenshots, etc.

If its video its not... a podcast? Words mean things!
-
- audio is easier to produce, edit, and archive.

I struggle to listen to podcasts (because my brain has to work too hard to figure out who's speaking and then it wanders off without my ears for a while), but love when they do put out a video version (Like Amy Poehler).
But I agree with your reasoning. Just let us be ugly!

HONESTLY HARD AGREE. I simply don’t need to see someone to hear them. We are seeing such levels of body dysmorphia and social pressure that was unimaginable decades ago, imo.

Unless it is someone doing reaction videos to songs that they have never heard.
