librarians everywhere

The security guard in Sainsbury’s and I were chatting. He said older people come in and ask where the toilets are. Younger people come in and do everything to avoid asking. I don’t think it’s bad necessarily. I don’t like it as a trend as it seems less about independence and more about insularity

As a librarian, this is correct. It's also literally what we're here for.
-
You learn Not to ask anymore when you've been ignored or put down too often. Reality is, even of you ask, beg even, sometimes simply Nobody cares
-
Not just librarians, this is something a LOT of people need to realize.
-
I keep on forgetting that lol
-
Of course. Tapping the sign is quieter than reminding us vocally.
-
I hate shit like this. I have. A lot. Guess what? ✨Nobody cares ✨

I walked into my local library and asked for help. Turned out everyone there at the largest library in Seattle was a "volunteer" and if I wanted a real librarian to help me find some information I would need to make an appointment.
They didn't know where on the website to make the appointment.

I try to teach my kids this! The majority of people are happy to help you.

Unfortunately this is not how our society see this. I was playing in a Minecraft modded server a few weeks ago and got banned because I was asking questions about the mods in the server instead of just using the wiki.
-
I know but I always feel like a bother if I do.
-
Fuck, really? I always saw it as just being an annoying burden at least how I ask
-
And then you have these mfs "Uhh hey chatgot"
-
Yeah, i'm not good at that... I just don't want to be a bother. Plus it feels 'weak'.
-
Pain is just weakness leaving the body.
-
I have never thought seeking help as a weakness.
I would rather find the help myself, but if need be, I will ask the proper person.
Also, I am more than happy to help those that need it.
-
Except when I do it apparently because then I'm "too aggressive with my emotions" or "trying to take a shortcut and not actually put the work in"
-
As a Library Technology Clerk, I agree that being able to ask someone for help is a good skill that everyone should have...
...BUT I would add on that it's even MORE important to at least TRY to figure something out on your own first. Don't offload the entire burden of responsibility onto others.

The why does it never work 🥲
