  1. The security guard in Sainsbury’s and I were chatting. He said older people come in and ask where the toilets are. Younger people come in and do everything to avoid asking. I don’t think it’s bad necessarily. I don’t like it as a trend as it seems less about independence and more about insularity

  2. You learn Not to ask anymore when you've been ignored or put down too often. Reality is, even of you ask, beg even, sometimes simply Nobody cares

  3. I walked into my local library and asked for help. Turned out everyone there at the largest library in Seattle was a "volunteer" and if I wanted a real librarian to help me find some information I would need to make an appointment.

They didn't know where on the website to make the appointment.

  4. Unfortunately this is not how our society see this. I was playing in a Minecraft modded server a few weeks ago and got banned because I was asking questions about the mods in the server instead of just using the wiki.

  5. I have never thought seeking help as a weakness.

I would rather find the help myself, but if need be, I will ask the proper person.

Also, I am more than happy to help those that need it.

  6. As a Library Technology Clerk, I agree that being able to ask someone for help is a good skill that everyone should have...

...BUT I would add on that it's even MORE important to at least TRY to figure something out on your own first. Don't offload the entire burden of responsibility onto others.
