Working through the Catherine Martin book, this is braid #4 (she calls it maru yattsu, but most other books call it edo yattsu). I chose a variegated cotton and set up the elements to create a “stained glass window” type design.

A very fun easy braid. 100g tama, 40% counterweight.

  1. It is a wonderful book! It is the one book I recommend as a first purchase for all beginners on the marudai.

The only criticism I have is that the Japanese names of the braid structures are a bit idiosyncratic. I think that is probably a function of where she was trained in Japan.
