Do you ever think about whether your posts may be spreading hate or inciting violence?

The Rabbi from the temple I grew up in & worked at, the Rabbi that performed my daughter's naming ceremony was BRUTALLY beaten in an antisemitic hate crime in the supermarket by someone on the left. #StopHate 🧵

  1. I would argue that being pro Palestine does not put you in the left. Some are.

However there are many people that hate Jews that just hate Jews. They are not on the "left".

  2. What is the Rabbi's name? I tried to Google search the image and no info came back. If you search 'Rabbi attacked' a couple of articles come up.

  3. I’m so sorry; here’s hoping he recovers without complications and justice is brought to bear against the perpetrators.

Leftists often speak on the virtues of populism, and some of them actually practice it. Others, alas, use it as a cover for corruption and abuse of power. See also Hugo Chavez,

  4. You made a point of saying someone on the left. Really? I'm sorry for your loss and nothing good comes of violence but that's the take away?

  5. How awful, Malena! I hope he’s okay and recovers quickly. People need to understand that words matter—spreading hate toward a community they don’t understand or know the history of is unjustifiable. Where has our empathy gone?

  6. This Rabbi was a huge activist in the interfaith movement. He worked for social justice & human rights for as long as I can remember.

But for the mere act of wearing his yarmulke in public, a man verbally abused him, accusing him of committing genocide and then beat the living sht out of him!

  7. Unfortunately, the ancient hatred of Jews is the one thing that unites the most vile on the left and the right. I wish him a full recovery.

  8. My God, I am so sorry. This is horrific and heartbreaking. I’m keeping you, your rabbi, and your community close in my heart right now.

  9. I hope he is ok and I will pray for him. I am sorry this happened. Extremism on both side is bad.

  10. I love that you posted a wake-up call. When I defend Israel or call out the Hamas lies, you would not believe the replies I get or maybe you would. I end up blocking some as they consider a terrorist entity a reliable source of information. Used to far-right anti-semitism but shocked about the left.

  11. Malena, how heartbreaking. Sending buckets of hugs and light to the Rabbi, you, and the Jewish community he serves.

The antisemitism in this country is frightening.

  12. I did NOT know. I'm sorry. I do disagree with people, but words are best for that, or voting. I'm mad at Netanyahu's Genocide in Gaza and the blocking of Aid and Medical, but I do imagine NOT every person in Israel agrees with what is being done. Nor do I blame everyone Jewish or Israeli.

  14. This is terrible and we send our sympathies and hope for this Rabbi to recover completely. Can you tell us more and give us any stories or information about this attack? Are the police fully investigating, is the attacker being properly prosecuted?

  15. For clarity: “We have no evidence to support that the attack was motivated by anti-Semitism. The rumors that it is a hate crime appear to have been started and spread on social media. The incident is under investigation," the police said in the statement.

  16. You’re full of shit. Only a MAGAt would act that way or spread that lie. YOU and your ilk are responsible for what happened to that man, not some vague, mysterious person “on the Left”. You’re a liar and you know it, but you don’t have the decency to stand up for yourself. You should be ashamed.

  17. I'm deeply saddened that anyone would think it's ok to hurt another. I pray for your Rabbi's healing and yours too. Hate simmers below the surface when lies are told. Hatred is usually learned at home. Getting back to basics of loving our neighbors is how we start making a change.

  18. Love you and this community. Despite the ugliness the world has seized on, this community has enriched my life in every way. Beautiful through and through. Grateful for you and the Rabbis like this who give us so much. I hope that he is okay, and that they bring his attackers to justice. 🫶

  19. That's terrible. I'm so sorry that happened to such a good man. What is wrong with people who can't see that our friends, neighbors and colleagues are not to blame for the atrocities committed by an evil government? We have to stop the hate.

  20. This is absolutely terrible. During my City Hall internship, I helped organize a Combat Antisemitism event and worked with Rabbis and other Jewish leaders, some of the kindest and most inspiring people I know. Whatever one’s views on Gaza, blaming Jewish communities here is both wrong and dangerous.

  21. I am totally opposed to antisemitism. Both Jews and Arabs are Semites. Hatred and violence are unacceptable. Incitement to hatred and violence are also unacceptable regardless of who is doing it. Being critical of Netanyahu’s response to the horrors of the Oct 7th attack is not antisemitic.

  22. I don't understand why he or any Jewish person living here is being blamed for what is happening. It doesn't make sense.

    It's terrible.

  23. There is no left or right where hate crimes are concerned. Only hate. Hate is truly a universal human trait.

  24. I had an Israeli family walk into the theater I work at and I told them how sorry I was for what’s happening. The man agreed and said it’s absolutely crazy what’s been transpiring. He is against that war.

  25. I’m so sorry. This is why I am super careful with my posts - certainly not always perfect but always trying. Did they apprehend the perpetrator?

  26. Racism and hate crimes are not acceptable in any form. ‘Someone on the left’ sounds very bigoted to me. More likely a Nazi sympathiser.
