Wingtip Sloat Chewyfoot (VHF#17/Tupelo 52)
The record that was never to be is! Wingtip can now finally silence the dozens of fans that have been clamoring for a full-length release since their reluctant emergence a few years ago. Chewyfoot (named after the anesthetic drug used by some South Pacific Island doctors) kicks their 7*s to the curb with its superior material and performance, not to mention the fact that you don't have to flip it over after 6 minutes.
All kidding aside, this is certainly about as good as any music that resembles the genre commonly known as "indie rock" can be. Rather than concentrate on one or two things that they are "good" at, Wingtip cram every song full of hooks, weird noise, odd arrangments, ungraspable conceptual content, etc. The mind boggles.
The LP is in handmade covers, and the CD is in a beautiful full-
color digipack (it looks like a Moody Blues record), and both have a 16 page booklet of photos and other ephemera. 10 tracks, 40 minutes.

Flying Saucer Attack Distance (VHF#14)
2nd full-length from this UK collective, who have been hailed by some people (from some sort of bizzaro world, no doubt) as the finest of the post-shoegazer bands. To say that doesn't do their totally original and baffling mix of fuzz, song, and atmosphere justice is an understatement. Distance compiles both sides of last year's very limited and instantly sold-out "Crystal Shade" 7,* as well as the three tracks from their first two 7's that have been otherwise unavailable-
