An Afghan man who worked for the U.S. military could likely settle in Canada, where family members have legal status.

Despite having passed a credible fear interview, he’s stuck in ICE detention, in conditions his lawyers call “deplorable,” at risk of being sent back to the Taliban

Three members of an Afghan family, including a man who worked for the U.S. military, could be eligible for asylum in Canada. ICE won’t release them.

  1. This is wrong. This sends the message that we turn our back on our allies. That we are untrustworthy. We must ALL DO WHAT WE CAN TO SUPPORT THOSE IN THE FIGHT FOR RULE OF LAW & SUPPORT THOSE WHO FIGHT ALONGSIDE US. Call Congress, speak out. Support ACLU, Democracy Forward, the DCCC. Ripples matter.

  2. ICE has two criteria:

    1. White = good
    2. Non-White = bad

    The test is self-explanatory

  3. Of course, he's stuck in ICE detention in deplorable conditions. Every single body in those concentration camps generates $$$$ (that we paid in taxes) to GEOgroup and CoreCivic. And every bit of humanitarian anything--soap, sleeping mats, food, water, toilet paper--takes away from the profit.

  4. The whole thing with the Afghan people here is horrible so unfair and so terrible they can’t ever go back. I’m glad that this person can go to Canada and be safe and away from Republicans.

  5. No one will ever help us again after treating our friends like this. I wonder if Trump ever thinks about what he's doing. He has the morals of an alley cat.

  6. So shameful to see America, under any administration, ignore the folks who worked side by side with them for so many years

    And do shit like this

  7. This is so fucking shameful that we as a country would do this to people like him after her risked his life helping us

  8. America is abandoning its allies in NATO, people who supported us Afghanistan, people who fled for their lives from other parts of the globe… We once were a refuge and our word meant something. We promised Ukraine security for nuclear arms. Now we have an asshole in the oval office reneging. Shame!

  9. I am very worried about the Afghan military and their families who have been resettled here. These men are heroes and deserve permanent residency.
