Great, acting, great characters, the most nimble and imaginative direction of Robert Redford's career, some of the best dialogue possibly ever written, and a career best performance by Martin Scorsese under Redford's guidance.

Even Rob Morrow's unfortunate eyebrows and accent can't damage it

  1. So good! And such a great script by Paul Attanasio.

The dialogue is so sharp and witty. And just one banger scene after another.

Not to mention that Ralph Fiennes, John Turturro and Paul Scofield are superb in it.

  2. My dad played the security guard that opens the vault during the opening credits. He had a picture of him in costume with Redford that he treasures more than pictures of his kids and grandkids.

  3. Thank you Matt! re: Rob's accent. I love this movie to pieces, but always tell my friends to watch out for that meeting with his boss. "Thheyyazz sahmmthin' theeeah . . . Sssennatahh . . . Aaaahll faaaandh attt . . ."

Can’t agree more. Such a smart meditation on corruption. A great American classic.
