need people to understand that accepting or conceding that he has the authority to do these things is tantamount to giving him the authority, and so your preemptive dooming is actively counterproductive

  1. There is zero chance - even if he had the authority to pull this and machine banning off in time for the 2026.

No Blue state will allow it and given the popularity of mail-in in Red states, they also will not roll over fast enough for the 2026.

    29% of all mail-in ballots were R

  2. Standing up to him here just means “states follow their own laws” which is what’s going to happen

  3. Yeah but it doesn't happen all by itself either, so he'll need more help than that (and regardless there will be a suit like with the last election EO)

  4. All the pro-democracy groups will step up and stop him through the courts: NAACP, Democracy Defenders, LULAC, State AGs, etc - Like they have been since Day 1

  5. The person on the front line here is going to be Nick Brown, Attorney General of Washington State - the only state, as far as I know, which requires everyone to vote by mail.

Trump's EO would disenfranchise the entire state if it had any real binding force.

  6. And ordinary Americans need to stand up to those people. Specifically Republicans in Congress, SCOTUS, & in the administration.

Meanwhile, protests that do happen (like in LA) barely get covered, and it’s extremely rare to call a Congressional phone and hit a full mailbox that won’t accept messages

  7. Trump will declare the election is whatever he wants the outcome to be. To be honest, it sounds like there is some kind of plan already in place. We know Trump has the mind of a goldfish and gets stirred up by whoever just met with him. So the highjacking of the midterms meeting just broke up.

  8. That's not necessarily true. Many of the things Trump wants to do require active participation from groups or people he doesn't control. It requires no active resistance for Trump's order wrt mail-in-voting to mean zilch, just people doing their jobs as required by law.
