Religious organisations with not-for-profit status shouldn’t be able to put huge amounts of money into influencing federal elections.

As a member of the Joint Standing Committee on Electoral Matters, I’m looking forward to investigating third party involvement in the recent election.

  1. Totally agree 👍 This must also include the Jewish lobby as they are always trying to buy influence from all politicians. I think the new Sth Australian rules in this area should be a template across the country.

  4. While everyone should be able to participate in the political process, regardless of their religious affiliation, the voters need to know who is funding the candidates in real time so they can ask the appropriate questions of those candidates about where they stand on particular issues

  5. Political donations over the last decade have been mind boggling . Turnbull donated over $1.5 mill to his party . D Pocock received $1.7 mill in 2022 . How could an Indigenous woman in a small community get that sort of money ? Sure call out religious donors . Scrutinise them all

  6. The Brethren were also using a call centre, to produce the huge volume of election phone calls.

    They can operate as a money laundering operation. If a billionaire wants to donate to a political party, it can be done via the Brethren, who then give services to the party. Donation laws bypassed.

  7. Absolutely, I was in the blue mountains and witnessed the weird passive aggressive behaviour of what I assume we're brethren. I also remember thinking I can't see how this is going to help the LNP...

  9. It’s supposed to be illegal for not for profits to take any partisan stance, so what will be done about it? Nothing. The system is rigged.
