My son's monthly uni rent for 1 room in a shared house was higher than his sisters mortgage payment for a 1 bed flat. Landlords (inc uni halls) are taking the pi**. Parents have to top up the rent & feed them too. Otherwise they are working all hours to make up the rest, this impacts on studies.
I'm really sorry about this, if I ran the world etc. Tho it does depend on what city the student halls are and where they are. Bear in mind unis get zero capital funding from the govt so all halls have to be financed from debt at 4%, 5%.
