I'm not sure of the cause -- some blame K-12 shifts to "chunk reading" while others pin it on COVID -- but it's undeniable.

Short form content (IG, TikTok, Twitter, etc.) has damaged all our attention spans, I fear. COVID didn’t do education any favors, but significant damage has been done by the dopamine-driven screen time “epidemic.”
I think it's all part of the bigger shift from text to video as famously predicted by Neil Postman. Definitely worth a read

Plus, I think, we no longer have time to do anything slowly. We live to the rhythm of texting.
I agree. I'm in STEM and the ability of students to focus has diminished and the process of learning has been greatly compromised.
