The BOBs lack any sense of self preservation, they're deathly frail, and the fact that they're vulnerable to friendly fire often interacts badly with the fact that they're often grouped near hulks (which I instinctively try to dump grenades into)
I feel like the fact that the execution of the concept is insanely frustrating is why the game just kind of lets you proceed whether or not Leela thinks you've saved enough crew.
