There are an awful lot of people who want left leaning fiscal policies, but are either indifferent to everything else or actively "socially conservative" and use being left leaning as cover for their bigotry.
Exactly this. And if votes are their all-consuming preoccupation, they should at least think of trans peeps and their families/allies as potential vote-winners, not vote-splitters...
