If the recommendation to Democrats was to speak plainly, casually, like a normal person having a real conversation rather than like a politician stumbling through jargon, they’d be gushing about Mamdani and telling Dems to be more like him.

But they’re not, because they really mean something else.

  3. Part of the quandary in this whole language discussion is that we know the debate on appropriate terminology is one-sided. Dems will fight internally over “unhoused” etc, while the other side calls them vermin without constraint.

  4. Maybe. But I think it is a good recommendation to Dems to look at Mamdani's campaign style and campaign strategies and use him as a model. (BTW I think his policies are not the magic behind his popularity or the cause of the silence and hesitation from people like Jefferies. His policy ideas are

  5. Overused word of the year is “distraction”. It minimizes the gravity of any given situation. Allows politicians to skim over difficult topics and not address real solutions; this week it’s all about unlawful fed takeovers and gerrymandering.

  8. What they want is for Dems to become 1980s Republicans because the current Republican party has gone insane. It's not our fault they made a Faustian bargain then lost control. They should take back their own party or form a new one and stop trying to turn Democrats into old Republicans.

  9. And this really kills me because THIS is the language that the center right actually is reacting to. Like even with the actual "woke" words half the objection is that the act of correcting people on language comes off condescending, not that dems are insufficiently bigoted.
