I cannot overstate how ignorant this is. Latinos are not any one thing. They are a pan ethnicity that includes elements of multiple ethnic groups including white people, the Taino, Maya, Quechua, Dieguenos, and Afro-Latinos, among many others.
Oh yes. Mayans and other central American native people... in a list with peope living in the Caribbean....very well known "Latinos".
This only makes sense if you ascribe "latino" to the native people before the arrival of the Spanish.
