In the 80s, Phil Collins and his band "Genesis " had a song called "Land of Confusion." You all need to find it and listen to it word for word. Then watch the music video. Report back to this post after and tell me what you learned.

Why can’t we start creating the music of protest for now? I like the ‘80s dystopia tunes and the ‘90s N.W.O. But it’s time to write our current protest songs.

You’re reading my mind!!! Was thinking the exact same thing!

I learned it’s insanely relevant today as it was under Regan.

There's not much love to go around. Thanks for the recommendation.

His generation did not put it right.

Heard it today and thought … this one has really held up well.

It’s on my iPhone along with ‘Jesus, he knows me.’ It’s way too close to the idiots in power now.

Those Muppets had a rough life.

You need to listen to Bob Dylan “The times they are changing” No truer words ever spoken(sung)

Remember this as a teen. Didn't love the song, but the lyrics were damn good. Definitely appreciated.

Thank you for your responses and suggestions! I have really enjoyed reading this thread. The song popped into my head at 1:30 in the morning for mo apparent reason and I just thought OMG that's happening now...just as it was back then. I wanted to share my thoughts and hear from you! Thanks!!!

I learned that The Disturbed sang a cover if it in 2005, but the video for it really sucks.

For a global commentary listen to “One World (Not Three)” by the Police.

I started listening to Land of Confusion after election day and I haven't stopped. "TOO MANY PEOPLE MAKING TOO MANY PROBLEMS AND NOT ENOUGH LOVE TO GO ROUND!"

This one is a bit more obscure, but very timely (esp the video).

I’m old?

I recommend this one…

Some of us recall its release.

I grew up watching that nightmare fuel. I woke up to the nightmare that is reality.

I was stationed in Germany in the 80’s and there always a video jukebox at the burger place on post and it seemed like that video was on every time I went there!

I believe I've heard the song before, but the video is from a whole other universe. As for what I learned... 🤯

“The Brazilian” is awesome.

You can't make me do homework.

Oh I'd have to go back and listen to it and watch the video again. Wow it's been years but I do remember it being like very muppety and involved Reagan
-
I saw it in the 80s on MTV!
I have relistened to it fairly recently…and was struck by the fact that Phil’s generation did not put it right

Follow up with The Who’s “Why Did I Fall for That” and chase with Living Colour’s “Cult of Personality”
(Genesis being described as “Phil Collins’s Band” hurts my soul… but it is a pretty good song)
