when a judge gets woken up at two in the morning to deal with your bullshit it is generally advisable to stop producing new bullshit such that they can get some sleep at some point the next day

JUST IN: Judge Sooknanan ordered the government to file a status report by 4 pm to address whether the children have been deplaned.

DOJ blew the deadline.

Now she orders them to show cause why they didn’t file the report in time — and sets new 6:30 pm deadline.

  1. Really hate the cynical part of me which is convinced they are gonna walk away scot free on this. Any normal human would have been in jail a dozen times over by now, but these people are gonna send kids to their literal death by the plane-full and face zero consequences for ignoring the court.

  2. When are the judges going to start holding these people in contempt rather than setting smothering hearing? Without accountability they will just keep blowing past every deadline. I just can’t even. If I did something like this I’d be thrown under the jail.

  3. Too much leniency by our judges in dealing with MAGA. A deadline should be a deadline and an immediate consequence should follow for these people who have historically thumbed their noses at rulings.

  4. What's the consequence I'd they don't? They have precedent that the DOJ is just going to fly anyway.

Unless the court starts holding people in contempt they have little power

  5. And this isn't some dry case about whether beans are a kind of vegetable under tax law or something. It's hundreds of kids, functionally orphans at this point, being rounded up on planes and essentially airdropped into another country.

  6. Just dreaming of the order to arrest them for contempt, and whatever felonies they're committing every hour they breathe

  7. We are watching Trump and his Fox News Cabinet at their very worse, disregarding the court and the rule of law….

  8. I don’t want to give them any ideas here but it seems like “the government won’t do Contempt Of Court or at least will attempt to fix it ASAP if they ever do” is a load-bearing assumption b/c it sure seems like there’s no reasonable way to sanction them if they do decide to do Contempt as a strategy
