Profoundly saddened by a mass shooting in NYC killing 4 people, including a police officer. We must never accept the lie that gun casualties are the price of constitutional freedom. May the memories of the lost be a blessing to friends & family & a reminder to all of us to act.

  1. It's not the guns killing people. It's the person pulling the trigger. If we can get the mental health institutions and stuff back from Trump's bullshit. Before a lot more of this stuff happens.... We can see a lot less shootings. Mental health is not something to fuck with.

  2. These killings will continue until Congress can set aside their indebtedness to the NRA for its campaign support, understand the intentions of the 2nd amendment and enact some sensible, needed arms control legislation.

  3. I learned that the founding fathers wanted regulated militias because they feared the power a standing army could be used against its citizens.

    Kind of mutes your point.

  4. We didn't have this until Russia funded the nra and they became the gun lobby. If gop wouldn't have let the assault weapons ban ,thousands would be alive today.

  5. Well good luck changing it. Cuz as soon as Democrats take the house senate and the presidency they will say..

let's only look forward. We're not burning any bridges we're going to work with the Republicans let's look forward.

THIS BULLSHITT THAT THE DEMOCRATS DO HIGH ROAD S*** PISSES US OFF!

  7. Thoughts and prayers. That's all you politicians ever say. Thoughts and prayers. This guy walked through the streets with no fear as he knew no one was armed and would not stop him. That's what useless gun laws do. When the ability to defend yourself is stripped away these are the results.

  8. A mentally ill man on medication bought the gun legally in Nevada and drove with his rifle to NYC. Nobody is safe in this country….

  9. Sensible gun control is all about regulating their purchase and use it use without hampering freedoms unjustifiably. Australia did it after the Port Arthur Massacre decades ago. No mass shootings since. Period. Regulate people and guns sensibly. You can still use them for appropriate purposes.

  10. The Democratic Party is failing us. Your James carville approach is a failure. And your poll numbers show it. How are we supposed to vote for a party that refuses to fight?

  11. They never cared about our Constitution. It was never about that. Clearly. They’re fine violating the hell out of every other amendment. They seem to like violating everything. And everyone. Such evil is hard to comprehend.

A species that devours its own young is headed for extinction.

  12. "Profoundly saddened"

is that stronger or weaker then "thoughts and prayers"

maybe we here should chip in and buy you a pearl necklace to clutch ?

I would have expected you to write:

These deaths are the direct result of GOP policies and GOP votes and a direct result of the NRA's insane policies

  13. There was a time when leaders had the integrity to put themselves on the front lines. But you don’t do shit except sit around yammering while fascism takes over America. Coward.

  14. Mr. Raskin, do you plan on posting this every day because there is on average more than 1 mass shooting event in America every day?

What made this one so special you felt to speak out now?

You need to get primaried for someone who cares consistently about others, not just when it is convenient.

  15. The image of the shooter walking around the streets with an assault weapon seems so ridiculous. How anyone other than the police or military are allowed to carry weapons like that is incomprehensible.

  16. Respectfully, @raskin.house.gov, I think that in order to act it's going to take brave & bold action at this point. & I mean I think it's really time to consider articles of impeachment. Donald Trump has gone too far. If he goes further (& he will,) he'll sink us into a hole that we can't get out of

  17. A few years ago that police officer would have been round up by ICE and deported.

Mayor Adams, fuck you complicate MAGA bitch.

  18. Idjit kennedy rushing out to insist we don't need gun control we need idiot control. Yup, he's right!!!! And he's the idiot. Stop and Frisk for Assault Rifles????

  19. As long as billionaires own your corrupt party, you will continue to appear like a fool…as if you work for us and we can’t see those billionaires behind you pulling your strings.

Do nothing Democrats are complicit because Democrats are billionaire owned

  20. Curiosity here: when has the 2nd amendment ever been utilized against a weaponized gov oppressing its people? Since its inking it has been we the people killing each other.

  21. Jamie, if we don't call out the perversion of the 2nd Amendment, this will keep happening.

Just as "Money is speech" is A LIE, the "Right to own guns" is A LIE.

Both LIES created by corrupt Republicans, NOT to increase freedom for all, but to increase THEIR OWN POWER & BANK ACCOUNTS.

    GUT THE 2A.

The assassin was a deranged man

Deranged men cannot have the right to hold guns

  26. I hate to say it but the TRUTH is Democrats as a whole need to get comfortable with their own second amendment rights. Putting a fascist back in office was fatal to this country and now it's not going to get any better for generations to come. Time to encourage Democrats to arm up.

  28. Thank you for not using the words "thoughts and prayers" in your statement. I appreciate your willingness to speak the truth.

  29. Words. Words mean nothing Jamie. Now you're going to dismiss it without trying to figure out what ACTIONS you can take. STOP doing what Republicans do. 'thoughts & prayers' now let's move on.

  30. Obama was unable to pass gun control legislation after Sandy Hook. How do you expect J. Raskin to do it now, with no majority in the House or Senate? Raskin IS on the gun control side.

  31. Why isn't anyone mentioning that T the sodomite, used Epstein's plane to campaign for the presidency, and then denies he ever knew him? COME ON!!!!

  32. Politicians will only deal with the gun issue if it effects Wall Street and their stock portfolios.

Until then, it's all performative rhetoric.
