Remember: The recipe for economic growth isn’t tax cuts for the rich. It’s investment in our people — in health care, infrastructure and education — to build a strong middle class.

You don't grow the economy through trickle-down nonsense.

  1. Advantages based on birth are baked into social and economic systems. Those with wealth and power want to maintain it for themselves and their family. We need to not only invest in our people to build strength but limit excessive accumulation of wealth and power, which leads to weakness.

  2. This statement is couched in the language of a system that will NEVER invest in people first no matter which shade of lipstick is or ever has been put on the 16th century pig named capitalism. Until we change to a cooperative system, the same abuses & inequalities will bubble up & down ad nauseum.

  3. Hello, is it Dr?, Professor Reich. I have read the first bit of Smith's "Wealth of Nations" and isnt his point that people, the manufacturers, that are the wealth of nations? The rest just seems to be about pins.

  4. Or so called Trickle Nothing. Every job they create is another pull from the common system funds. They’re less than useless, they’re parasites. Working people can’t afford the rich anymore. It’s either them or us.

  5. The economy means the stock market and that is doing fine

Both parties use "economy" to dupe you into thinking they give a fuck about anyone that doesn't own a fortune 500 company

A growing capitalist economy correlates with declining material conditions for working people

  6. True, but they (Americans) don't believe you. They believe that: Trump didn't start an insurrection Trump won the 2020 election Foreign countries pay the Trump's tariffs. Ukraine started the war Trump stopped wars.😆 Trump is a genius. Trump is honest🤣 Trump is not a Paedophile Trump is not a liar🤭

  7. Indeed; Return to the tax rates prior to Reagan, would help every American & this country immensely: Universal Healthcare = M4ALL; Education: Clean renewable energy infrastructure and storage which would slash monthly Bills to near zero and so much more

  8. working American's are funding the tax breaks for the rich through these tariffs tariffs also strengthen large corporations, snuffing out mom and pop businesses it's disgusting and wrong

  10. They can't rule over us if they treat us as important equals.

They have to beat us down and break us, then we can be ruled.

  11. This is what all Democrats can agree on, no matter where they are on the political spectrum.

Economic growth for the middle & lower classes is what we should tun on, because that is what Americans care about.

We can fight other battles later, but this is the one that wins, and that comes first.

    0
  12. I mean, EVERYONE should know this by now since we’ve lived the proof through so many Republicans administrations. But - on top of that - we haven’t seemed to have learned anything about fascism, either. It’s so frustrating to learn how many ridiculously uneducated Americans there are.

  13. The only thing trickling down in this regime are the effects of the tariffs on the middle class...before he's done, the trickle will be a tsunami.

  14. Taxes not returned to the community are a drain on the community: The illegal National Sales Tax ( Tariffs) have a multiplier effect in reducing local economy. for every Tax dollar lost; between 4 & 7 dollars of economic activity is lost to the community: 100 Bil. is 4-700 Billion in lost economy.

  15. Giving important real-world jobs to unqualified TV personalities and your billionaire friends will cause bankruptcy and destruction. Bankruptcy is still trumpfs only skill.

    0
  16. You don't grow it by giving our tax dollars away to war criminals and weapons manufacturers in the trillions to plunder and to perpetrate genocide by proxy either. Speak the whole truth

    0
  17. All you do with that nonsense(thanks Reagan), is pad profits, shareholder return and the pockets of the wealthy.

  18. that lil fact won't keep the oligarchs from trying it for another 50 years, just to make sure.

  19. Being able to afford things like… anything really I mean groceries are nuts. Gas just jumped like a mofo.

The only people benefitting from it didn’t have to worry about this shit to begin with other than how to profit from it.

    1
  20. They could really care less about growing the economy. This is a smash and grab gang

    0
  21. Woah now. Just because turning the millionaires into billionaires didn't work, doesn't mean turning the billionaires into trillionares will fail!!! Lets give it a try

  22. AI, robotics... no need for so many people. Hence, quiet slow extermination. Watch, in 20 years, robots will get better care and have more money spent on them for their 'maintenance' than we ever had in healthcare. #countryincrisis #itshappeningfast

  23. Trickle down has been around since Reagan. No money has ever trickled. Tax the Billionaires and Corporations. Give the money to the Middle Class and you’ll have a robust economy.

    0
  24. I recall the Ted speaker who explained he only needs one pair of jeans. Not a hundred pairs of jeans. His money in the hands of the many has a lot more economic power.

    0
  25. Republicans have been saying that same trickle down shit since Reagan, and their constituents are still waiting and still voting for them. Go figure.

    3
  26. It shouldn't be that way but more people are scared to go to the hospital because of incurring a huge debt than because of a health emergency.

    0
  27. Tax cuts for billionaires don’t “grow” the economy — they just fatten the yachts. Real growth is built bottom-up: healthy people, strong schools, and roads that work. MAGA’s “trickle-down” is just rich-up. Invest in us, not them.

    0
  28. It’s more like a flood upwards into oligarchs bank accounts. Sucking the wealth out of all of us. I fear for the next generation if this wealth distribution continues. We are all a few peoples slaves, kept poor to ensure compliance by having to slave daily to pay our bills to them.

    0
  29. we have proof that trickle-up works. The Covid checks, give money to the middle class and they dont save it, they spend it making our economy grow. Facts, data, and reality have no place in this version of the USA.

    0
  30. Maybe after our revolution we can rebuild as a socialist society because when I look at Denmark, Sweden, Norway I think they really know what they are doing! We need a clean slate. Clearly democracy as we have experienced it doesn’t work for 99% of Americans! Our founding fathers fucked it up

  31. Let the fox watch the henhouse, leaves nothing. I hate to say it; letting DC control spending AND collecting without account (what we do now is NOT account) the people need to be involved in it as well. Set it to put on ballots like states do for bond issues.

  32. Trickle down theory is like expecting a plant to grow by watering the leaves and leaving the ground bone dry.

  33. The recipe for survival for any American that isn't a billionaire is a combination of taxation and expropriation. They will imprison or kill anyone that opposes them unless, as a society, we disarm them by removing the excess wealth they use to warp the government to their whim.

    0
  34. I stopped spending money on “staff”! I canceled Amazon Membership! Saving an average of $300 a month. We can get this government by stopping spending money on stuff! And then: Watch the NYSE! Consumption 📉! We can grab them by their… wallets!!!

  35. @briantylercohen.bsky.social If only Dems had the courage to say this on right-wing media platforms 24/7 like the right has appeared on all medias the past 30+ years. Where is Chuck & Hakeem? Hiding under the picnic tables with their donors? Silent leaders aren't leaders.

    0
  36. government doesn't invest, it spends. as such, it can't "make investments in our people". government just spends money. private individuals make investments. i would have hoped an economist would understand that, yet here we are.

  37. Trump and his regime are only invested with the rich, he is not a president for ALL the people.

    0
  38. And that's not just a feeling from a great man. Study after study proves that trickle down has never worked. Britain did a fifty year study and found that it has never worked. Studies show a return of 3/4 dollars for federal coffers for every dollars given to people who are not $$ well off. Win Win!

    0
  39. Yes, but Trump Republicans aren’t interested in growth. They’re indoctrinated by Evangelical “prosperity gospel”

Get want you, while you can, now.

Republicans are on an outright robbery spree of Americans. They don’t care about next generation or legacy, get rich now & burn it all down.

    0
  40. They want the economy to collapse and everyone to die, Robert. They are having so much fun burning down the world so they can reign over the ashes they can’t stop. They are too afraid someone will get their fair share.

    0
  41. Way I see it, money is blood. It has to circulate to survive. It doesn’t matter how much you have if it’s not moving. Investing in healthcare, education, and infrastructure make it move by empowering working people so they can spend. Tax cuts for the rich are blood clots and hardened arteries.

    3
  42. Strong middle class and economic growth are not of any interest to the rich and wealthy. They benefit more from economic decline and cheap labor.

  43. Nancy Pelosi: 246 million. Daryl Issa: 456 million. Donald Trump: 500 million. Are there ANY members of Congress that ARE NOT Multi millionaires? TAX the ostentatiously wealthy. At WHAT POINT, does Pelosi NEED her job, to survive? Inessential wealth is obscene.

  44. Please help Hakeem and company write the damn Legislation, please !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    0
  45. Robert, what you and your economists must do is

write the Big economic legislation for Hakeem and Chuck S..

clearly the boys are lost in the weeds and have SERO big ideas

which leaves us holding an air-bag going into 2026 elections

    Help !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  46. "With f47's tariffs, we will pay 18.3% more for food & products while manufacturing is lost (over 100,000 manufacturing jobs lost since f47 became president again), and the top 100 big business CEOs and stockholders are raking in an extra $1.2 trillion in personal income while f47 destroys unions."

    0
  47. Reagan’s big lie got us here. Because the truth is when the wealthy were taxed they spent MORE money on middle class issues to avoid paying the tax. He eliminated REAL trickle down economics. Now there’s no incentive.

    0
  48. ABSOLUTELY. Trickle-down economics is one of the biggest cons that the rich have ever pulled on ordinary people.

    0
  49. Canada's Conservatives follow the same dogma as American Republicans, with the same results: our economy tanks whenever they come to power, whilst corporations make record profits.

    1
  50. Who said anybody would be interested in a strong middle class. A depression earns the right society much more gold.

    0
  51. If you want Growth, Tax the Rich so they have to work harder to get richer.

If you give tax cuts to the rich, they get richer without working harder. They pocket the money, & corporations do stock buybacks. No Growth!

You're against helping the poor to force them to work harder, also Tax the Rich!

    0
  52. The problem is that they don’t care, and they are making sure that they’ll never have to care. This conclusion isn’t cynicism. It’s a diagnosis based on the finding and symptoms of a very sick body politic. Please tell us what we can do in a country no longer under a working Constitution.

    0
  53. "Economic growth" itself (especially when left undefined) is nonsense. As soon as you advocate for it, for whatever rationale, you're already a capitalism complicit. And capitalism doesn't stop when it suits you.

The common people's wellbeing is the ultimate goal. It doesn't require justification.

    1
  54. Yep.

Give a rich man more money and he’ll just put it away somewhere it won’t attract tax, ‘cos he’s already got enough to live on.

Give a poor man more money and he’ll go out and spend it on the stuff he’s been deprived of.

  55. Trickle down economics is the fundamental fraud the GOP has been trying to sell for nearly half a century. In order to work, it would require rich people to a) pay taxes; b) pay taxes; and c) pay all their taxes.

This country has made these fµ¢kers rich for so long they think it’s the law.

    0
  56. 40+ years I've been hearing this trickle down bullshit, all the way back when my parents were buying into Reagan's nonsense.

Invest in the infrastructure and destroy the mono-, duo-, and oligopolies and you'll see generational benefits economically.

    0
  57. We need to get Rich companies like Facebook and Google and Apple to pay taxes. The rats do not have enough to lift us out of this hole. I don’t know why you people think taxing the rich will work it’s the businesses that can pay for it.

    0
  58. the rich know this, they don't want a strong economy, they want an oligarchy, they want a return to a modern version of feudalism

    0
  59. Put the money in at the bottom and it will circulate and people will thrive. All of the people. Put the money in at the top and if goes out of circulation and people surfer and die needlessly. Why has it become normal to think that people should serve the economy?

    0
  60. Yea that trickle doen not working well for amazon warehouse workers. While Bezos had whay? A 3 day wedding.

    0
  61. Whatever do you mean? I thought people hoarding wealth was the best way for money to move through our economy. 😂

  62. The Giving Pledge, “where billionaires pledge to give at least half their wealth to charity—remains mostly unfulfilled, with most signatories far wealthier now than when they joined” is proof trickle down is nonsense.

    apple.news/AyN-LAP09TjS...

The Giving Pledge invites the world’s wealthiest to publicly commit to giving away at least 50% of their wealth. The Institute for Policy Studies has the receipts.

Bill and Melinda French Gates and Warren Buffett's Giving Pledge after 15 years: Only 9 of the 256 billionaires actually followed through on giving away half their wealth — FORTUNE

The Giving Pledge invites the world’s wealthiest to publicly commit to giving away at least 50% of their wealth. The Institute for Policy Studies has the receipts.

  63. Every dollar directed to the consumer, to the working family, to those on the bottom, eventually bubbles up to the top, but stimulates the entire economy and enriches everyone's hands it goes through along the way.

Every dollar that goes directly to the top, stays there.

  64. We can’t grow the American middle class by allowing visas/immigrants. Every immigrant we allow in America results in an American losing their job +/ an American Family becoming homeless. Their culture has none of our virtues. They have a hive mentality, hire each other, block Americans out of jobs

    1
  65. I absolutely agree we tried this during Reagan years I remember it nothing happened nothing we didn't get more jobs matter of fact jobs were hard to find I know I was looking interest rate was skyrocketed 12% was the lowest you could get our country was in major trouble and it is again

  66. 62dp.bsky.social profile picture

Yet they keep doing it, and people keep falling for it. Does nobody remember Ronald Raygun? Trickle down economics didn’t work in the 1980’s, because it’s BULLSHIT.

  67. A healthy, well-fed workforce is a productive workforce. Earnings should be for a step up … not for sustenance.

    0
  68. Yeah, they know. They have seen the data for years. But they don't care.

We need a way to revolt and take our country back without getting everyone killed.

    0
  69. Any insight into why the trickle-down myth still persists? IIRC, David Stockmen freely admits it was an idea that proved itself false by his failed implementation of it.

Why is it still treated as a valid theory?

    0
  70. After 40+ years of evidence proving that trickle down is a scam, Republicans are still telling us that it totally works. 🙄

    5
  71. That was never this administration‘s plan. They care nothing for the average American!!

    0
  72. Real growth comes from investing in the backbone of our society—working people—not giving handouts to the wealthy few. Health care, education, and infrastructure build lasting prosperity.

  73. I’m old enough to feel like we’ve been fighting this narrative forever🤷‍♀️ oh wait, we have

  74. They know this, its all a grift. They are draining the coffers and bribing their accomplices. Not enough rope for all the bastards.

  75. Early investments in children, particularly from birth to age 5, yield the greatest return for society. Target investments in quality early childhood development for disadvantaged children. The highest rate of economic returns come from the earliest investments in children. (Heckman Principle).
