I will never understand the copyright abolitionist folks…especially when they’re also artists? Do they not realize or care that retaining our copyright is the backbone of why artists are able to make a living without working under a company?
Folks smarter than me explain it better, but think of how many times you've seen or heard of someone losing the rights to something they created because it was the only way to get it made. IP law exists to let corporations commodify culture, often at the direct expense of creatives.

I want to abolish IP law like I want to defund the police. Not because I want society to ignore crime, or ignore plagiarism, but because the way we respond right now is broken. It fosters inequality and the concentration of wealth, not incidentally but by explicit design.

You are talking about "work for hire" (WfH) not copyright law. WfH doesn't exist in most of the the world. Employees in the EU remain © owners and employers only license works. I jointly own the film Iron Sky and I'm not a corp. I'm suing Valve for © infringement and USCO confirmed my © ownership.
