Secrecy benefits only the perpetrators.
You do have a point. But making this an open-sourced effort can potentially be more transparent. It's hard to get 10k people to agree to cover something up. If something is in there, it WILL get out. At this point, I'm having a lot of trouble trusting anything behind a closed door.
