You know, you can write a blog without supporting a company heavily invested in fascists, ask me how I know
The sad young literary man is alive and well on Substack
On literati Substack, it’s still 2005.

(Disclosure: I have a disused Substack account because I have a tendency to grab my last name on every social media instance in order to avoid brand confusion across the internet. It has one post, which is a picture of a cat.)
Same reason I still have a twitter account; I don't want anyone poaching what is/was my recognized username space.
Sound, if pricey, trademark practice.
Not substack, but generally. I was upset for at least 5 minutes in 2002 that someone had already filched the “first name initial last name @ gmail.com” pattern for our newborn daughter until realising that our son has the same initial. Obviously not using enshittified Gmail anymore but still.
I am moving my writings and essays to Substack after my book comes out. I used Wordpress and was going to tie it in with my live journal old entries as part of the book support and pore of some epic times, but I fell off in drive. Finishing the book w/new chapters really took an emotional toll
So you're really saying your cat has a Substack account....
Never tried substack. Tried Tiktok. Hated it, but I don't enjoy watching videos (or tv. Just not my thing). I still read blogs. I still have my blog. I still get recs from blogs, friends and these days #bluesky and #booksky. If you want to read, it's really not that hard to find books.
But it's a very controversial cat, no doubt.
It also means that you can get imposters kicked off.
I am nobody in particular and have been doing that since 1986.
