I agree, if you’re gonna make an accusation then you should be willing to actually stand up and say it openly, considering this isn’t a whistleblower situation where you could get punished at your job or something
your job would be safe but your life might not be. This decision will endanger more people. The police may not be able to prove the allegations, that does not mean abuse isn't happening.

The names are still confidential, so it's not a risk to whoever files the complaint. It just means the state isn't willing strip search minors looking for evidence of abuse just because some anon said it existed.

96% is a VERY high statistic. Sounds like the anonymous nature of the reports is being more rampantly abused than the kids.
A CPS investigation is traumatic (more so when baseless). People are filing anon false reports and abusing children by doing so.

Surely losing anonymity just means the police keep track of who did it so they can ignore spam callers rather than telling the potential abusers who snitched
