I'm building a tiny computer embedded in an old CRT television for my kid, which plays movies, shows and commercials from the '80s and '90s. I think lots of parents my age would be into it, but we'd have to deal with copyright. Something like a cow-share -- we all own 5% of this Full House DVD

oh that ROCKS. my solution so far has been a hard drive full of torrented approved materials, mainly very old, but i have to manually select everything. played through a computer then through an HDMI port to the TV. once i get a new computer i want to try making a Plex server for it all

  1. Thanks! I had to preserve the feeling of changing channels so the remote still works. It has 4 "channels" (sitcoms, PBS, cartoons, and movies) that play simultaneously, and you can move up and down between them. A script handles inserting commercials and station breaks to pad to 30min blocks
