  2. The most cultural big city in America has to be Chicago. Chicago has culture 50 miles thick. Music, technology, science, sports, ethnic, commerce, comedy, politics, health, religion, museums,,,

  3. This is wrong. Pittsburgh has one of the largest Natural & art museums in the country and multiple other cultural venues. Aviary, zoo, Symphony, Heinz Hall, Benedum Center, Science Center, Kennywood..many other attractions.

  4. How even do you quantify culture? That should be the start of the article... but I see no info about how the results were tallied. I shouldn't expect much from a site named "celebrityonlines" but I try to give every site a chance to wow me. Oh well.

  5. You obvs do not SeaTown! Cradle of Grunge? The city tried to throttle it! (Teenage Dance Ordinance! Promoted by the MAGA-adjacent Times.) Of course, Grunge preferred the adversity, it made it gritty (oh my should not use That Word about something Grungy! .,. !

  6. Uh per capita does not matter if you have the Met, MOMA and the Guggenheim and freakin' Broadway! But now that SeaTown is going to be more populous than SF, I think we should be ranked up.

  7. Boston 1st (where I learned how to live at age 24), Philadelphia last (where I grew up). Seattle close to the top. But if you include Canada (NOT the 51st state), Quebec, Montréal, Toronto and Ottawa in the top 5 with Boston.

  8. I lived in Back Bay ( Boston) and you couldn't take a walk without seeing something at least as old and amazing as The Revolution.

  9. MPLS, MN is a city filled with culture, too. That's my hometown & as a child, I'd roam around the MPLS Inst. of the Arts, where Dad dropped me off when he went to "play poker with the boys." Later, on my own, I cycle to the Walker Art Center & NE MPLS Arts District. And all those city lakes.💙

  10. More than just Seattle is loaded with culture in my state. Outside the city the vibe continues and grows. Except in eastern Washington where all the Nazi maggots are.

  11. How does Chicago not make this list? World class symphony, world class museums, many more Equity theatres than NYC, improv capital, world class restaurants, world class architecture, major cultural events every week, neighborhood festivals, great music scene...

    Chicago has more of everything.

  12. Everything goes in those cities, run out contaminated by frivolous, superficial, monetized, as if there were no room for art appreciation. If it doesn't sell, it's no good for them. That's why I think collecting arts in the US has destroyed international art.

  14. Really, cultured cities? I have lived in some of these cities&visited most of them. The US is a capitalistic society; democracy has gone down the tube. If it can’t make money it’s gone. The results is a watered down version of culture. Sure somethings have survived. These cities have lost their mojo.

  15. This list is missing Chicago ergo not a good list. The entire city of Chicago is a work of art. Plus, The Civic Opera House, Art Institute, Field Museum,Goodman Theater, Second City,Jazz Fest, Blues Fest, at least 20 Michelin rated restaurants,at least 50 restaurants that have won James Beard Awards

  16. Boston is the best little city, we are bit different. But you are spot on with our culture. It's both amazing history but also current. We have lots of diverse events which go on through the April to November, then we move inside. I'm must admit all on the list are great places to visit.

  17. This is good! I think Boston is ranked kind of low, but that's my Boston-born bias speaking. Just one thing. You include Tori Amos as one of Boston's notable figures. She's a daughter of Methodists with family stretching from Baltimore to DC. Maybe replace her with Black Francis? 😀

  18. I really don't feel like Seattle has that much culture. Coffee shops aren't that strong of a cultural institution.

  20. I like this measure of a city.

"These cities lead the nation in cultural density per 100,000 residents, with arts, music, museums, festivals, cultural media, and humanities institutions embedded in everyday life."
