  1. As a musician, producer, and engineer that has been directly involved with thousands of high level recordings since 1985: I can tell you that artists have never felt this depressed, unloved, and outright afraid for their lives than right now. Please patronize, pay, and attend live music.

  2. His surname is actually “Batiste.” I live in New Orleans, and he’s very much a respected favorite son. 🎹

  3. ““No matter how dark it gets,” he said last night, “I know: We can win. We can win. We can win.”

Yes, we can. Let’s not lose sight of the good and motivated people in our country who remain committed to creativity, diversity, inclusion—and joy.”

    Bravo!🫶

  4. What America and world at large need is to completely unchain human sexual nature, that is what.

But of course, that would be too easy, eh? Not melodramatic enough.

  5. What a treat that must have been to see him in Central Park. And American Symphony was wonderful. He is truly a special voice we can use right now.👍

  6. At a recent protest, folks showed up with ukuleles and song sheets. We were at a signaled intersection and people at the red lights were rolling down their windows to sing with us. It was great.

  7. The art we need and the art that will be unraveled from this season we’re crawling through will be the thread that helps bind and buoy us all.

  8. The headline could have gone for the Coen Bros. reference. It would have been so easy.
    But NO. 🙂‍↕️

Instead, their dopey Mandela Effect had to continue to frustrate Shakespeare fans, who have to remind regular people to look up “Wherefore” in the dictionary. 🤦‍♂️

  9. Yes! We need the joyful courage of musicians and artists speaking truth now more than ever. That’s why I was so sad the Michael Franti show I had tickets for tonight was canceled :(

  10. Yes to all: A “p” accidentally got into the subtitle for Batiste. I am happy to report his name was spelled accurately in every instance in the actual piece—and so is the subtitle now.

  11. I took my son to The Rolling Stones concert at the stadium last year (Hackney Diamonds Tour) and Jon Babtiste was the warm up act. We loved him so much. My kid said this is almost as good as a Taylor Swift concert.

  12. I'm an artist & nobody gives a 💩. Oh, right. You mean pleasant, simple, easy-to-consume, performers & artists.

Everyone always does. That, my friend, is part of the reason the United States is dying.

  13. One guy going clubbing downtown DC with friends told the WSJ he wasn't going to let the presence of troops in the streets stop him, adding "Joy is resistance."

I think you might be referring to Jon Batiste. John the Baptist, if I recall, was more of an orator of the Gospel than a singer of Gospel music.

  15. Have been saying this since 2016.

I wasn’t expecting a late 1960’s explosion of protest songs and art, but what has occurred is barely perceptible.

  16. Nope. America decided joyfulness is overrated and so chose the opposite of joy. This is what it sounds like when chickens cry.
