I’ve mulled over posting this for months now. But yesterday it came to a head. And I’m aware that the people who need to see it will either not be here, or will suggest that I’m lying.

I live near an asylum hotel. The reason I didn’t post earlier is that I didn’t want to raise undue attention

  1. Thanks for posting this. Some people just don't understand. I was privy to an argument recently where someone was trotting out the usual tropes to a person who'd actually been through the immigration process with their partner.

    Still wouldn't believe them.

    Insanity.

  2. I saw a clip of this on BBC NW they seemed quickly cut off the story when it showed the police starting to shove some of the agressors back. Even more suspicious that no media has any reports on it. This likely means the protest was a riot and that side are going to look bad.

  3. We have the same situation an old hotel that was abandoned used to home asylum seekers, not a second of problems from them - spoke to an old man who was going there and needed directions and his main concern was would the people running the hotel be nice

  4. I read an interesting article about asylum accommodation in rural Ireland and how the introduction of lots of young men with nothing to do disrupted the town and made people feel unsafe... for a bit until everyone got used to it. Its ok to recognise that increased numbers of asylum seekers has an

  5. The grooming and radicalising of these people has been enabled by our media allowing the far right and racists a platform Hold them all to account How do we go about de-radicalistation and education? Remember the furore when Shemima Begum was radicalised? This is NO different

  6. Thank you for posting this. Sadly, the people who need to hear this wouldn't be able to understand it, or would refuse to even hear it. The world is in so much trouble right now.

  8. Great thread - echoes my experience!

On reflection, the asylum seekers have no choice about where they are placed. If people really wanted to make a difference, they should protest to the people making the decisions - the Home Office and the companies contracted to source accommodation for them!

  9. It seems the racists are organising to intimidate the refugees sadly. Their rhetoric is stomach churning.

  10. Taking it from your name, and without asking you to dox yourself, was this one in Stockport? I ask as there's a hotel very near where my daughter lives that has been subject of "protests" before.

  11. My views are exactly the same as yours. I think you're right to focus on the appalling behaviour of a sector of society that has almost flown under the radar, the feral, under-educated cannon fodder for Farage. They are the real risk to this country, not immigrants.

  12. Excellent post mate. Thanks for sharing your experience, and yes I too want my country back from racist white thugs

  13. This is it. These mobs are rampaging around and causing massive fear, intimidation and damage in the name of “protecting” an England that never even existed - it’s all a revisionist mythology. They’re so ingrained their crappy lives are someone else’s fault - they punch down instead of rising up.

Neil, I'm really grateful for you posting this thread. The truth about asylum and refugees needs to be broadcast far more widely, the volume of prejudiced rubbish across the media drowns everything else out.

  15. I was troubled by the Conservative Mayor of Epping who explained that there were valid cultural and historic reasons why it shouldn't have to accommodate immigrants. Turns out his "cultural & historic reasons" were a large National Front membership there in the past! I suspect he was one such member

Very sensible not to post. But now that this has happened, a good idea to let as many of us as possible know just what’s happening. Thank you for the thread.

  17. Thanks for the thread. Over recent years we have hosted asylum seekers from different countries - Iran, Sudan, Nigeria, Guinea, Bangladesh, Palestine, Malaysia - plus Ukrainians. All have been honest & trustworthy. I am sure there may be 'rotten apples' just as there are among UK-born people

  18. Excellent thread and a true reflection of the sad reality of this country.

The country we love is compassionate, unafraid of difference and celebrates its diverse community.

And it’s being stolen from us by a noisy minority who stir up anger and enable the violent to wage their war for them.

  19. Anyone who thinks these low rent brownshirts care about the UK is a cretinous bawbag.

The real invaders are foreign owned media billionaires subverting UK democracy by inciting division and hatred. Starmer hasn't the minerals to take them on.

  20. Thank u for that. Gold ⭐ like! It's lovely to hear from the sane, compassionate side of humanity. Thank u.

  21. So that the local idiots with their ‘legitimate concerns’ could come along and ‘protect are wimmin n gurlz’

Despite being on alert, and having had the police protecting it on a couple of occasions, nothing has previously occurred there.

    Yesterday that day happened.

  23. People want to earn money.. and PAY TAX. More than Jeremy Clarkson is willing to do.

Largely, people arriving are in good health and won’t put undue pressure on the NHS. We have a huge skills and jobs gap, we need people, to generate tax, to pay for our problematic aged population. 🤷🏼‍♀️

  24. There is more risk to the local community from knuckle dragging racists travelling to protest than than asylum seekers who are terrified to leave their rooms

  25. Its not your fault. Asylum seekers have to go somewhere. If the Tories hadn't stopped processing claims none of them would be in accommodation now. I don't say hotels because they are no longer hotels.

  26. One answer is this: GET OUT AND VOTE.

The morons on the right are motivated. They have numbers and they are bullies and they are MOTIVATED. They bank on two things: creeping prejudice from people in the middle, and the opposition to their sub-human beliefs assuming

  28. In Birkenhead park, a young girl was upset that a man was filming her and her baby. She reported it and police detained him. They said he was white British and Wirral born. She had posted on fb that he 'looked Arabic'. Cue the 'send them back', 'stop the boats', and 'it's gone too far' comments.

  29. Thank you for posting your really good thread. So good to read about your positive experience. At the over 50s club I go to, we have lovely volunteers who are refugees who help out. Everyone in the club welcomes them and they join in. Several years ago i was in an open air dance production.

  30. It’s a great thread and I’m sorry you have to deal with thug racists in your neighbourhood. No one can reason with them as they are beyond reason. Tice Robinson & Farage the stirring bastards stir and stir the pot and then watch the anarchy boil. I truly despair for the future of this country.

  31. I also live near a hotel housing asylum seekers. We've had an armed robbery on the village shop, another on a pub, a stolen car hit and run which killed a woman, an arson on an empty building, car thefts and a cannabis factory. And do you know how many of the perpetrators were asylum seekers? None.

  33. Well said Neil. I don’t particularly want any attention on me either. This morning I fell into conversation with someone in a counter-protest group near the local ‘asylum hotel’ as a ‘patriots’ demo was beginning, ended up having to take a stand and joining them. Got abused by a handful. Worth it.

  34. I posted the other day I found out I'd be living about 200 yards from a hotel housing asylum seekers for over 12 months and never knew it . No murders, muggings or rapes. I only found out when the local press put an article about it online and thousands of illiterate dickheads commented.
