New: Lizelle Gonzalez is suing officials who wrongly charged her with murder for an abortion—and depositions with investigators show that, if given the chance, they would handle future cases the same way

Police and sheriffs have so much power to ruin people’s lives by manipulating the legal process

Generally speaking, it is not a great sign when when cops admit things like “I don't know what the law states right now” under oath.

  1. This recalls the statement, “You can beat the charge but you can’t beat the ride.”

The opportunities given and abusive power granted by poor laws to under trained officials, who possibly have private agendas, stands clear in these cases.

  2. This reveals the depth & layers of American misogyny. The partisan Supreme Court decides which rights to "bestow" upon women but now individual law enforcement and DAs will make decisions based on nothing but their own opinions. First they came for our bodies, soon they'll come for our votes.

  3. Police and sheriffs who want to trample rights are greatly encouraged by the wanna be despot who squats in the white house and his rubber stamp supreme court.

  4. Frankly, this lady doing the suing should be asking for a LOT more cash - Gonzalez was even mentioned in my dumpster-fire back-water of the UK by anti-abortion activists and in some media.

Hope her lawyers ask the jurors if they'd want those officers protecting them, when they choose to ignore law.

  5. Despite uproar over the charges and disciplinary action against DA Gocha Ramirez (who's now accused of paying for his mistress' abortion), multiple people in the sheriff’s office suggested to Gonzalez’s lawyers that they wouldn’t do much of anything differently. One said he still didn't know the law
