  1. Only journalists with a clear sense of duty and service to their public would know to include the brand, flavor, and texture of the inculpatory potato chips, but including it in the second graf is truly a bravura move. My hat is off and my heart is full.

  2. As a Chinese American, that excuse is total horseshit. Red envelopes are for good luck money on holidays like Chinese New Year. It's never $140 to buy friendship. Playing this off as cultural is horrific. It's a bribe. Lock her up!

  3. You know someone is going to call on Mamdani to issue a statement tomorrow to clarify his position regarding Chipsgate.

  4. So, according to her, randomly handing out large sums of cash in potato chip bags is just a thing Chinese do? That's certainly one way to spin it, I guess.

  5. Winnie Greco will be sacrificed and take the blame for this, Eric Adams, "I ain't done nothing wrong," again. At least this time it's States law and not federal, Pam Bondi can't do a damn thing to help him.

  6. This is highly suspect and her “ I know understand this is my culture……. Is total bullshit”. Because in that culture parting with money to someone you hardly know is not a thing.

  7. This is both disgusting and hilariously stupid but, that's how Eric Adams and his people roll in NYC! All respect to honest journalist Katie Honan, and principled editors at THE CITY!

  8. “I make a mistake,” she said. “I’m so sorry. It’s a culture thing. I don’t know. I don’t understand. I’m so sorry. I feel so bad right now. I’m so sorry honey.”

    Lmao WHAT?!

  9. I know that journalism is an increasingly precarious way to make a living but did this lady really slip her, like, 200 bucks?!

  10. I guess I kinda missed the payoff here---seems like a bribe. Sounds like a bribe. But for what service? Just general favorable coverage?

  11. Tariffs and Trump demolishing the economy are hitting everyone hard it seems -- even conservatives' BRIBERY is being done on a shoestring budget.

  12. I don't think the reporting includes how full the chip bag around the money was. Someone tries to bribe me and the bag's empty, it's not happening.

  13. This is democracy manifest. What is the charge? Gifting sour cream and onion and cash chips? Succulent sour cream and onion and cash chips?

  14. Underrated quote:

“I just wanted to be her friend,” Greco added. “I just wanted to have one good friend. It’s nothing.”

  15. Seriously, $200 is an insult in a bag of potato chips!? The bribing technique is pointless & stupid. They're really dumb as FUK suggests throwing their journalist career over $200? 🤬🤦

  16. Imagine being hungry and someone offers you a free light snack of potato chips and you get excited about how great the timing is and then…it’s a bribe, not chips

  17. “This is not as pathetic as it looks like. I’m not trying to underpay for favorable media coverage—I’m trying to underpay you to be my only friend.”

  18. Such BS and not just because of the economy. That chip bag isn’t even full. Oh I know, I know “money may settle to the bottom after packing.”

  19. Herr’s Sour Cream and Onion are pretty good. Not as good as Utz Ripple Sour Cream and Onion, but close.

(Does anyone else feel like sour cream and onion flavor is disappearing from shelves?)

  20. Sis you did not nicely red envelope that cash to identify it as a formal money offering and then stick it in a chip bag for camouflage as "a cultural thing" you just did a bribe wrong lol

  23. Personally, I would have taken that bribery attempt as a Chinese insult! Is Xi running out of money to bribe Americans for Trump!😆😂🤣😅🤮🤮🤮

  24. “We are shocked by these reports,” Shapiro said. “Winnie Grecco holds no position in campaign. Mayor Adams had no prior knowledge of this matter. He has always demanded the highest ethical and legal standards, and his sole focus remains on serving the people of New York City with integrity”

    Sure🤮🤮🤮

  25. Oh, sweetie child. No one will ever possibly believe that you were giving your new friend a hongbao in a BAG OF CHIPS. In fact, I would think giving someone a red envelope covered in potato chip grease would be an absolute insult.

  26. It’s embarrassing when politicians don’t know how to bribe people properly.

Start a meme coin! Hold $150,000 plate dinners! Take your favorite Supreme Court Justice windsurfing!

    Geez guys, get it right!

  27. I would’ve taken the bribe if it was in a bag of Herr’s Salt and Vinegar chips. Then I’d go and buy Herr’s salt and vinegar chips with it all

I think that’s supposed to be “renovations” instead of “reservations”.

Additionally, a campaign volunteer claimed that Greco promised to help him get a city job if he helped oversee reservations to her home in The Bronx, which he did. After he was hired by the Adams administration, Greco continued to compel him to assist her with construction-related tasks and other personal business while on the job, the aide claimed.

  30. Huh, I opened up my dictionary and looked up the word "chutzpahdik" and I found this link. How odd ;)

(I'm oddly charmed that some things in NYC are still old-fashioned. I'd rather it was the pizza, but I guess we take what we can get.)

  31. That's a very bad oh I'm so sorry cultural misunderstanding act she's putting on. She's been in politics and around politicians and knows handing out cash is not legal.
