We are seriously considering homeschooling our 10 year old son because we live in Texas. Middle school and high school is where all this is learned

Depending on where you are in Texas there are some amazing homeschool groups that give chances for socialization and are welcoming to all walks of life. (Not saying they all are, but I had a wonderful experience with one some years back that stuck with me as an amazing community experience.)

Some States care about their citizens and try to control firearms in sensible ways; Licensing, red flags, required training, registration...
Texas gives them out for free whenever you buy a truck or open a bank account.
